(6 Customer Reviews)
Madonna released EROTICA around the same time she released her SEX book, and that's exactly what it sounds like. The title song has a sensuously static groove over which she commands, "Put your hands all over my body." "Where Life Begins" demands that you do something a whole lot more intimate (and quite unrepeatable here) to her. The CD booklet has a photo of Madonna in bondage. To get across the album's naughty feel, Madonna dispensed with the pop prettiness of LIKE A PRAYER and returned to her hard-core dance club roots.
She and co-producer Shep Pettibone, who had made his name as a club DJ and dance remixer, craft some alluring bad-girl grooves (catch the ocean-deep bass on "Waiting") while still managing to keep things catchy. "Deeper And Deeper" is celebratory dance-pop (with a brief Latin break that nods to the music's true roots) and "Rain" stands among Madonna's major ballads. There's a strange heaviness amidst the fun, games and bondage on EROTICA, which "In This Life" goes a long way toward explaining: it's about AIDS and homophobia. At her naughtiest and most R-rated, Madonna still carries a message, and it resonates well beyond the dance floor.

Rolling Stone (11/26/92, p.70) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...EROTICA is everything Madonna has been denounced for being--meticulous, calculated, domineering and artificial. It accepts those charges and answers with a brilliant record to prove them..." Spin (1/93, p.62) - Recommended - "...largely poignant, reflective, and compassionate in tone..." Q (12/92, p.121) - 3 Stars - Good - "...the substance of EROTICA resides in a range of straight-talking, almost intimate songs based, not on an idea about sex, but on experience of relationships..." Musician (1/93, p.90) - "...ranges from the snazzy, deep house groove of `Deeper And Deeper' to the luscious, slow-tickling pulse of `Rain'..." Madonna Rocked Here OK, Erotica wasn't Madonna's #1 album but I loved it too. All songs were a little similar. My friends say that Erotica is great choice to have a sex. Bad girl is my favorite song here - one of Madonna's best ballads to date. Deeper and Deeper, Rain, Thief of Hearts, Words, Waiting and Why It's So Hard were really good songs.
Erotica is the sexiest album ever made! Submitted by Irina (Ternopil, Ukraine) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Underrated album Erotica showed new Madonna's sound but unfortunately critics didn't appreciate it.
I think Erotica was brilliant album with such hits like Rain, Deeper and Deeper, Erotica, Bad Girl (#1 here) and beautiful non-single songs like Thief of Hearts, Words, Waiting... Submitted by Irina (Ternopil, Ukraine) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of Madonna's best Albums This album is a masterpiece, only compared with "Ray of light" and "True Blue", but obviously with a totaly different point of view: the pleasure of sex, the relationships issues and the joy of life. Critics and fans agree in which this is one of her better works. "Erotica" is a relaxing song for me, but at the same time wakes up my sensuality, it's one of my favorites Madonna's songs. "Where life begings" have the more controversial lyrics, it's a hynm to oral sex. "Fever" an "Deeper and Deeper" are everybody favorites club anthems. "Bad Girl" describes a empty life without find the true love. "Thief of hearts" is a funny and furious accusation to those who try to still your boy/girl friend. "Waiting" have the best closing for a song: "And the next time you want pu***, just look in the mirror, baby♫", "Bye bye baby" talks about the breaking in relationships in a funny way since Mo's point of view. Madonna's best album to date Madonna re-invented herself as a sexgod. To bad the public didn't appreciate it. She was shocking again, but this time not in a good way. However, Erotica is a fan's favourite. The beats are great, and what about the lyrics? The album has a relaxt sound but can also be used if you are having sex as background music. Rain is the only ballad, and it is one of her best ever. This track really stands out! Other good tracks are Erotica, Bad Girl, Words and Thief Of Hearts. Erotica
$10.29 Includes rare 12" dance remixes previously unavailable on CD.
Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Madonna had already made serious waves with her 1983 self-titled debut, springing her irresistibly exuberant, sexy dance-pop onto an unsuspecting public. But it was 1984's LIKE A VIRGIN that exhibited the calculated pop mastery that would define the singer's career. Everything from the cover art (which features Madonna splayed out provocatively in a wedding dress) to the sleek production from Chic's Nile Rogers announced Madonna's arrival as the queen of pop.
If only for the album's two gargantuan smash singles, the bouncy, coy, gold-digging ode "Material Girl" and the racy title cut, LIKE A VIRGIN would go down in pop history. The dominating force of both songs, their videos, and their subject matter helped make Madonna a household name. The rest of the album delivers too. The energetic shimmy of "Dress You Up" and "Angel" are infectious dance floor workouts, and her cover of Rose Royce's ...
| | Madonna You Can Dance CD (1987)
Erotica
$6.45 This is not a true greatest hits, but a collection of newly remixed (1987) versions of her hits.
Madonna's meteoric rise to stardom had as its springboard the early '80s NY club scene; dance music has provided a home base for any of the ...
| | Madonna Like A Prayer CD (1989)
Erotica
$6.15 Madonna's exquisite sense of the pop song, and suitably stylish aesthetic to match, was pushed to the hilt for 1989's LIKE A PRAYER. Sporting a bare midriff and a stylishly dark bob, she immediately set the Moral Majority up in arms with the title track's video, depicting, ...
| | Madonna Bedtime Stories CD (1994)
Erotica
$7.89 For Madonna, pop music is the canvas of her greatest aspiration. While some critics might be ready to write her off, BEDTIME STORIES reasserts Madonna's claim to the R&B/dance floor turf she ceded to others as her own productions became elaborately self-conscious. And where performers like R. Kelly filled the breach with risque, sexually explicit fare, BEDTIME STORIES marks Madonna's return to a more stylized, elegant form of R&B.
Not that Madonna has gotten herself to a nunnery, as the soft-focus ooohing and aaahing of "Inside Of Me" demonstrates, but the overall approach on BEDTIME STORIES is less carnal, more romantic (like the difference between the Supremes and Salt N' Pepa). But in collaborating with innovative producers such as Babyface and Dallas Austin, Madonna has again positioned herself on the cutting edge of modern R&B (compare the layered, collage-like production ...

Not to take away from the two fine party albums that preceded it, but TRUE BLUE is arguably the first great Madonna album, the one on which she discovered that great soul music isn't just a beat; it usually requires delving into one's own soul. As ...

| | Kelly Rowland MS. Kelly CD (2007) Special Edition
Erotica
$9.19 This Special Edition of MS. KELLY includes a free ringtone, mobile handset wallpaper, one digital song download, and an enhanced booklet.
After the breakup of the phenomenally successful Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland kept a relatively low profile, at least compared to group-mate Beyonce, whose celebrity status as a solo artist cast a big shadow. Rowland cast some shadows of her own, however, with 2007's MS. KELLY, a wholly satisfying showcase for the singer's particular take on contemporary R&B.
Cameos from Eve, Snoop Dogg, and Tank keep the energy high, but MS. KELLY is Rowland's show through and through. With equal attention to both thumping club tracks (the album's lead-off single "Like This") and smooth, downtempo balladry ("The Show"), this solo effort pushes Rowland into some well-deserved limelight.
Kelly Rowland's second solo album was, at one point, due to be released in 2006, titled My Story. Before it was released, Rowland had a change of heart, deciding that the material was too ballad and midtempo-oriented, and she told interviewers that it "would have made people cry." So, she switched it up a little, sought out some different producers, and adjusted the album's makeup. Even without this knowledge, Ms. Kelly sounds like an album where Rowland is mostly sorting through some deeply personal relationship issues with a couple relatively lighthearted songs thrown in for variety. Unless close attention is paid to the drastic and fleeting shifts in subject matter, the ...
