Amoroso/Brasil album for sale Product Description
Amoroso/Brasil album for sale by Joao Gilberto was released Sep 14, 1993 on the Warner Bros. label. Joao Gilberto is perhaps forever destined to be lesser known to casual jazz fans than his occasional collaborator Stan Getz (whose GETZ/GILBERTO albums introduced the United States to bossa nova) and his ex-wife Astrud Gilberto (whose shy, delicate voice made her one of the most distinctive and beloved jazz vocalists of the '60s). However, true fans of Brazilian music recognize that Gilberto is second only to Antonio Carlos Jobim as a writer and interpreter of traditional Brazilian music and Brazilian-influenced jazz. Amoroso/Brasil CD music contains a single disc with 14 songs. ...See Full Description

Stan Getz / Joao Gilberto Getz/Gilberto CD (1963) Top Seller
Amoroso/Brasil buy CD music One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova's finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped Jazz Samba by bringing two of bossa nova's greatest innovators -- guitarist/singer Joao Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim -- to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. Ever since Jazz Samba, the jazz marketplace had been flooded with bossa nova albums, and the overexposure was beginning to make the music seem like a fad. Getz/Gilberto made bossa nova a permanent part of the jazz landscape not just with its unassailable beauty, but with one of the biggest smash hit singles in jazz history -- "The Girl from Ipanema," a Jobim classic sung by Joao's wife, Astrud Gilberto, who had never performed outside of her own home prior to the recording session. Beyond that, most of the Jobim songs recorded here also became standards of the genre -- "Corcovado" (which featured another vocal by Astrud), "So Danço Samba," "O Grande Amor," a new version of "Desafinado." With such uniformly brilliant material, it's no wonder the album was such a success but, even apart from that, the musicians all play with an effortless grace that's arguably the fullest expression of bossa nova's dreamy romanticism ever brought to American listeners. Getz himself has never been more lyrical, and Gilberto and Jobim pull off the harmonic and rhythmic sophistication of the songs with a warm, relaxed charm. This music has nearly universal appeal; it's one of those rare jazz records about which the purist elite and the buying public are in total agreement. Beyond essential. Antonio Carlos Jobim Wave CD (1967)
Amoroso/Brasil CD music Perhaps Antonio Carlos Jobim's best-known album, 1967's WAVE was Jobim's first release for his longtime producer Creed Taylor's special CTI imprint at A&M Records. In fact, it was only the label's second release--after Wes Montgomery's A DAY IN THE LIFE--and WAVE went a long way towards establishing both the sound and even the look of the fledging label. Playing guitar, piano and harpsichord on these 10 original instrumentals, Jobim is backed by a small combo and Claus Ogerman's usually tasteful but occasionally overbearing strings. The tracks are brief--over half are under three minutes--introducing a theme, coloring it with a few brief solos and a lot of solid ensemble playing, and then fading. The overall mood is mellow without being sleepy, and as a whole, WAVE is a soothing, almost intoxicating delight. While it's probably not Jobim's best album, it's certainly one of his most offhandedly entertaining.

Charlie Byrd / Stan Getz Jazz Samba CD (1962)
Amoroso/Brasil songs Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by Suha Gur (Polygram Studios).
The album that launched Jobim's now classic "Desafinado" Jazz Samba was released in 1962, in the early days of America's bossa nova craze and before the music lost its charm to cliche. Joined by fellow Latin jazz pioneer Charlie Byrd on classical guitar, and a discreet bass and drums team, tenor saxophonist Getz makes light and elegant music out of a collection of catchy bossas and sambas. His virtuosity, bluesy drive and smooth, soft tone make the music cook like bossa jazz rarely has since. There are still enough surprises to make this record more than just a period piece, and it stands as a fine example of Getz's lyrical genius.
This is part of the Verve Master Edition series.

Antonio Carlos Jobim / Elis Regina Elis & Tom CD (1974) Top Seller
Amoroso/Brasil album for sale In 1974, bossa nova innovator Antonio Carlos Jobim teamed up with Elis Regina, one of Brazil's finest and most beloved singers, for a recording that ranks among the best Brazilian pop albums ever. Jobim's compositions are renowned for their melodicism and intricacy, and they are beautifully showcased here. This is largely due to Regina's masterfully subtle and breathy performances (listen to her slow reading of "Corcovado" for a case study in perfection), but everything about this disc, from the clear, tasteful arrangements to the way the voice of Jobim and Regina interact, is a delight. Alongside select albums by Joao Gilberto and Caetano Veloso, ELIS & TOM is a must-have for even the most casual Brazilian fan.

Antonio Carlos Jobim Terra Brasilis CD (1980)
Amoroso/Brasil CD music Antonio Carlos Jobim fans are very much split on the topic of arranger Claus Ogerman. They tend to either love the albums Ogerman did with Jobim--TIDE and WAVE are the best-known--or dismiss them outright as over-orchestrated near-easy-listening tripe. Released in 1980, the double album-length TERRA BRASILIS is the last of the Jobim-Ogerman collaborations, but it's just as controversial as the earlier ones. The 20 tracks, taken from all eras of Jobim's career going right back to the BLACK ORPHEUS days, are given Ogerman's usual heavy orchestral style, with Jobim playing piano and singing in front of Ogerman's swooping, lush arrangements. None of these are the definitive versions of these songs--even tracks Ogerman had previously arranged, like 1967's "Wave," sound a bit denser now--but fans of Ogerman's sometimes over the top arranging style will find much to enjoy here.

Joao Voz e Violao CD (2000)
Amoroso/Brasil buy CD music JOAO VOZ E VIOLAO won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.
A US release of new material by bossa nova master Joao Gilberto is like the appearance of a comet. It doesn't happen often, and when it does you'd be wise to pay close attention. Nearly a decade separates JOAO VOZ E VIOLAO from its predecessor, and thankfully little seems to have changed. Gilberto's voice and guitar possess the same purity that made his early-'60s recordings so unforgettable. Caetano Veloso, one of many Brazilian artists strongly influenced by Gilberto, achieves a production masterstroke here by the simple act of putting the man in the studio with only his own guitar for company.
The result is the most directly affecting Joao Gilberto recording to reach American ears since bossa nova's heyday four decades prior. Unhampered by an intrusive string section or superflous studio players, Gilberto is free to pursue his quiet but forceful vision with undiluted focus. Nodding to his roots, he performs a couple of Jobim tunes, including the famed "Desafinado," and embraces the present by performing a number of Caetano Veloso compositions, even though these are clearly written with the classic bossa nova style in mind. JOAO VOZ E VIOLAO is the stuff of a Gilberto fan's dreams.
Recorded at Studio AR, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Solo performer: Joao Gilberto (vocals, guitar).
