Van Halen: Sammy Hagar (vocals); Eddie Van Halen (guitar); Michael Anthony (bass); Alex Van Halen (drums). Van Halen assembled its first live album, the two-CD Live: Right Here, Right Now, from a collection of tapes dating from 1985, when Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth, to 1993. Only a few songs recall Roth's days, and ten of the 11 songs from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge are featured. Only a few songs recall Roth's days, and too many songs from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge are featured (ten out of 11). With the exception of the consistently impressive Eddie Van Halen, the album slows to a halt during the solo passages. Most of the time, the performances aren't all that different from the original studio recordings. Despite the moments of tedium, Live: Right Here Right Now deserves to be in any real Van Halen fan's collection; those who aren't devoted to the band would be advised to stick with the original albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine It will forever remain a mystery why the mighty original Van Halen line-up never released a live recording, especially because they were one of the better live hard rock bands to hit the stage. The first official live Van Halen recording was the 1993 two-CD set, LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW, which collected 24 tracks from various tours with singer Sammy Hagar (spanning 1986-92). David Lee Roth-era songs are kept to a bare minimum, and almost the entire FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE featured. Such later-Van Halen favorites as "Poundcake," "Why Can't This Be Love," "Right Now," "When It's Love," and "Best of Both Worlds" are featured. Also included is a cover of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again," Hagar's solo composition "One Way to Rock," and the Roth-standards "Panama," "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love," "You Really Got Me," and "Jump."Q (4/93, p.91) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Van Halen have continued to prosper under the saw-toothed leadership of chief belter and shouter Sammy Hagar....120 minutes of prime time Van Halen from the last seven years..." Van Halen Live: Right Here, Right Now Songs Live: Right Here, Right Now Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) VAN HAGAR LIVE RULEZ! Van Halen under the leadership of Sammy Hagar was one of the best live acts ever. The experience would blow you away. The raw power and clarity of Eddie and Sammy is apparent on these fine double album release. Most of the album highlights the "For Unlawful Carnel Knowledge" album the best effort of the Van Halen Sammy years other than the classic "5150". "One way to Rock" and "Finish What you Started" are amazzing displays of guitar wars between the too veteran rockers. The Who tribute is a extra treat. Roth (1978-1985,1996)had the showmenship and charisma but didn't sing well live where as Sammy Hagar (1986-1996) will always be remembered for his voice and new age vocals about love, aliens and poundcake! Long live Van Halen! Submitted by jan_rieger (Denver, CO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ALIVE Great live album, dont think, just listen and love it.Sammy sounds great live and the band tears it off onstage.I interludes during and after songs, especially in Panama when sammy says 'Fudge' TOMMOROW and the rest that he says, its simple but its so true man.I love the Solos and i love the songs, though sammy sings some of DLR songs a bit to quick. It still amazes me why Van Halen with David Lee Roth never released an offical Live album when they were at their Brown Sound powers. $12.55 On 2008's THE FOUNDATION, singer/guitarist Zac Brown leads his ensemble on a vibrant set of country-rock. While the Georgia-based performer is clearly comfortable with ballads (see his emotive cover of Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene"), he seems ...

The Flaming Lips: Michael Ivins (vocals, guitar, bass); Steven Drozd (vocals, guitar, drums); Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitar). Additional personnel: Scott Bennett (bass). Producers: The Flaming Lips, Dave Fridmann, Scott Booker. Recorded in Cassadaga, New York, New York between April 1997 and February 1999. Flaming Lips: Steven Drozd (vocals, guitar, drums); Michael Ivins (vocals, guitars, bass guitar); Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitars). So where does a band go after releasing the most defiantly experimental record of its career? If you're the Flaming Lips, you keep rushing headlong into the unknown -- The Soft Bulletin, their follow-up to the four-disc gambit Zaireeka, is in many ways their most daring work yet, a plaintively emotional, lushly symphonic pop masterpiece eons removed from the mind-warping noise of their past efforts. Though more conventional in concept and scope than Zaireeka, The Soft Bulletin clearly reflects its predecessor's expansive sonic palette. Its multidimensional sound is positively celestial, a shape-shifting pastiche of blissful melodies, heavenly harmonies, and orchestral flourishes; but for all its headphone-friendly innovations, the music is still amazingly accessible, never sacrificing popcraft ...

$25.29 2006 return of the Rock titans, albeit reduced to original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. To say that this album was "long awaited" doesn't even begin to describe the heightened anticipation by longtime Who fans for their first full length album of new material in 24 years. As Pete Townshend indicates in the liner notes, it was recorded "discontinuously" over four years and the 19 tracks reflect a band still pushing the boundaries of rock music and unafraid to experiment. Half of the album is the full-length version of the mini opera "Wire And Glass" which was released on an EP single in Summer 2006 as a sampler of what was to come ...

| | Ultimate Earl Klugh CD (2007)
Live: Right Here, Right Now
$11.89 Earl Klugh's light, delicate guitar tone and penchant for combining different genres--samba, folk, jazz, fusion--in a smooth, crossover style has made him a favorite of jazz-pop fans for years. The 14 tracks on THE ULTIMATE EARL KLUGH provide an excellent introduction to the artist's sound by skimming the cream from his discography. Klugh gems like "Midnight in San Juan," "Movin' On," and "Angelina" are represented, with the guitarist's gentle, caressing technique on ample display throughout. With its fine selection and sequencing, ULTIMATE offers a good way for light jazz fans to discover Klugh's listener-friendly music. Mosaic's Contemporary series is a model for how artist compilations should be done in any genre. This volume, showcasing the career of Earl Klugh from his self-titled Blue Note debut in 1976 to his Warner Bros album Sudden Burst of Energy some 20 years later, reveals a very warm and intimate artist whose intimate melodic sensibilities crossed many genres, from soul to jazz, from Latin to country, from pop to blues. Hearing "Angelina" today from that Blue Note record is a revelation. Klugh, along with Lee Ritenour, Harvey Mason, Dave Grusin, bassist Charles Meeks, and percussionist Laudir ...
