There's no way to mistake David Ball for anything other than the real deal. The lanky North Carolina cowboy is pure honky tonk, and THINKIN' PROBLEM is a whiskey-soaked, broken-hearted, walkin'-the-floor classic.
Authentic steel and fiddle-heavy instrumentation, pure country lyrics ("I say I've burned her memory, but I'm just blowing smoke/ There's embers in the ashes, that haven't yet grown cold,") and heartsick vocals to rival Hank Williams, make THINKIN' PROBLEM one of the most traditional albums of the year.
The title cut, a surprise hit of Summer '94, ("I must admit I have a thinkin' problem, she's always on my mind,") has catapulted Ball's swing and swagger through the bar door, down the street of broken hearts, and past country music's pretty boys club.
"Thinkin' Problem" was nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance in the 37th Annual Grammy Awards.

Dave Ball Thinkin' Problem Songs Thinkin' Problem Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) WONDERFUL I ONLY RECENTLY LISTENED TO DAVID BALL, BUT I REALLY LIKE HIS SOUND. old country/western fan a fresh style of country music from a artist with a sound and voice that sets him apart from the "new" nashville sound, every song on this album was worthy of being a hit single. Submitted by wolffo1667 (Eagleton Arkansas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
His best, by far. I own every David Ball album, but could have stopped with this one. All the elements of great honky-tonk country in one package: great songs, great voice, and sympathetic production and arrangements. I consider an album great if it's got two songs I really like. On this one, I like EVERY song except the hit. One song I didn't care for at first, but it has grown on me so much it may now be my favorite. In 1996, Lonestar had a hit ("No News") that mentioned Pearl Jam. In 1998, "You Walked In" namechecked Madonna and Princess Diana. On their third album, LONELY GRILL, they've thrown in a song ("Don't Let's Talk About Lisa") that mentions Marilyn Manson, Hanson and Ally McBeal. Thankfully, however, Lonestar make much more than cute novelty ditties. LONELY GRILL, Lonestar's first without additional ...
| | Rhett Akins Thousand Memories CD (1995)
Thinkin' Problem songs
$6.39 All songs co-written by Rhett Akins except "Katy Brought My Guitar Back Today" (Mickey Cates/John Jarrard).
Rhett Akins' Decca debut, A THOUSAND MEMORIES, bodes well for the young Georgian. On it, he displays an honest, enthusiastic energy, simply presented, without over-adornment.
Rhett writes all his own material, yet the songs are varied, focusing on rollick 'n' roll, sweeping weeping ballads, and a large dose of down-home ...

| | Gary Stewart Live At Billy Bob's Texas CD (2003)
Thinkin' Problem album
$11.95 Other than reissues and best-of releases, Live at Billy Bob's Texas is Gary Stewart's first new album in a decade, and his first-ever live recording -- which seems odd for a performer whose songs seem to be tailor-made for live performance. In the 1970s, Stewart defined what was left of the true honky tonk tradition, and into the '80s and '90s continued to write and record quality material, but his style of country music had long fallen out of fashion and he fell into nearly complete obscurity. This ...

| | Lindsay Holler Malleable CD (2006)
Thinkin' Problem album
$9.35 lindsay holler sings and plays guitar. Her voice slivers onto the sidewalk through a cracked upstairs window on dusky afternoons. it smells you with its tongue, pensively considers, and strikes. In clubs and theatres - it's the same. On some occasions it caresses; other times accuses. When amplified it can be seen on the air ... then we all drown. Holler lives in Charleston, South Carolina. She hails the South as home and has lived in New Orleans and New York; she studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. With the addition of Nick ...
