The Ramones: Joey Ramone (vocals); Johnny Ramone (guitar); Dee Dee Ramone (bass); Tommy Ramone (drums). Recorded live at the Rainbow Theatre, London, England on December 31, 1977. Personnel: Joey Ramone (vocals); Johnny Ramone (guitar); Tommy Ramone (drums). Recording information: Rainbow Theatre, London, England [live] (12/31/1977). One of the greatest live albums of all time, It's Alive captures the Ramones at their absolute peak. Recorded at London's Rainbow Theater on New Year's Eve 1977, the album contains 28 songs (every one a classic) from the band's landmark first three albums: Ramones, Ramones Leave Home, and Rocket to Russia performed at breakneck speed in under an hour. In fact, the band only pauses long enough for bassist Dee Dee to count off the next tune -- "one-two-three-four!" -- and for singer Joey to complain about some bad chicken vindaloo. It has often been said that the Ramones helped save rock & roll by making it fun again -- It's Alive is the perfect case in point. Long live the Ramones! ~ Eduardo Rivadavia This is the Holy Grail of live concert recordings. Long unavailable in the U.S., IT'S ALIVE captures the Ramones in peak form, having the time of their lives before an appreciative British audience. From Joey's slow drawl "Weeeeeeellllll, it's great to be back here in...") to Dee Dee's "1-2-3-4," this disc pummels the listener into submission with the complete live Ramones experience to the point where you can practically feel the sweat. All the classics from the first three albums are executed with an enthusiasm the Ramones rarely mustered years down the line. The live version of "Blitzkrieg Bop" will send shivers down even the hardiest Coney Island strongman's spine, and "We're a Happy Family," "Teenage Lobotomy," and "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World" express what it is to be young and dumb better than a thousand John Hughes films ever could. IT'S ALIVE is the next best thing to actually seeing the Ramones live and, as that's not likely to happen, this set will go a long way towards satisfying your Ramones fix.Q (5/02 SE, p.140) - Included in Q's "100 Best Punk Albums". Q (8/00, pp.120-1) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...It remains a spirited 28-song guide to their punk years and testament to the fact that Britain had provided a second home for their concise bubblegum thrash..." Record Collector (magazine) (p.99) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "[A] superb live document....This high energy, one-hour blitz squeezes in three albums' worth of material..." It's Alive Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Best Live Album.... EVER!!!! Without a doubt, this is THE Ramones album to own. Even with all the studio albums, compilations, ep's, bootlegs... etc., this is by far THE BEST Ramones album. Recorded in 1977, this stuff contains 28 blazing tracks from the first 3 albums, all high-octane in-yer-face energy that will have you bouncing off the walls all night. If you could only own ONE Ramones album, this would be the one.... bar none! Submitted by a reviewer (Moncton, NB, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
THE GREATEST RAMONES ALBUM EVER All the songs are amazing and sound amazing. Along with the best Ramones line- up. The only bad thing is that it does not contain the sons 53rd and 3rd or Beat on the brat. Other than that an awesome album! Submitted by wildmanfergy (Abington,PA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
GREAT LIVE BAND AT THEIR PEAK In their heyday (76-81) nobody could touch the Ramones as a live act. Their pacing was heart-attack inducing; there was no dead air between songs. They flat-out rocked every single night. They played more songs in 60 minutes than Springsteen plays in 3 1/2 hours! IT'S ALIVE captures the Ramones at their peak, and it is a reminder that Tommy was a very solid drummer in his own right (Marky and Ritchie might have been "better" but...). One Of The Best Live Albums EVER!!! It's hard not to smile while listening to "It's Alive". I first purchased this music around 1979/1980 and it has been a staple in my collection since. You simply can't go wrong with it. The happiest, most fun, "I'm gonna tear the roof off the day", music I've ever heard. Submitted by a reviewer (Nashville, TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Greatest Live Album Ever Fast, furious, stunning. If you never had a chance to see them live, here's what you missed--pure, unrefined, uncompromising: "Jackie is a punk, Judy is a runt, they both went down to Berlin/Joined the Ice Capades/And oh I don't know why/Oh I don't know why/Perhaps they'll die/Perhaps they'll die." Rock poetry doesn't get any better than this. Submitted by a reviewer (New York, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

It's Alive
$10.05 The 1981 compilation Assemblage gives a skewed, incomplete picture of Japan's early career; this is not necessarily a bad thing, as Japan's early career frankly wasn't very good, and it certainly had little to do with the mature, studied art-pop of their later albums. For example, the glammy disco thump of the opening "Adolescent Sex" has more to do with the Sweet than Brian Eno, and the version of Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' "I Second That Emotion" taken from a 1980 single sounds more like a failed attempt at chart success than an artistic experiment. Furthermore, David Sylvian's voice is completely ...
