A song score album that's about as subtle as the movie it was created for. Van Halen kick off proceedings with "Humans Being," with brothers Edward and Alex Van Halen closing the set with "Respect the Wind." In between, there are cuts from Rusted Root, Tori Amos, Alison Krauss, Mark Knopfler, Soul Asylum, Belly, k.d. lang, Lisa Loeb, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Goo Goo Dolls, Shania Twain and Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham. A diverse assortment, to be sure, with some very enjoyable moments salted amongst the crunchy parts. ~ Steven McDonald The soundtrack to this 1996 summer blockbuster cuts across genre lines with the same random force as a tornado slicing through a town. Bluegrass fiddler Alison Krauss and metal headbangers Van Halen are among those who contribute previously unreleased tracks; the list also includes Belly, k.d. lang, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and former Fleetwood Maccers Buckinghan and Nicks. Tori Amos provides an alternate version of the BOYS FOR PELE track "Talula," with tornado-inspired lyrics.

Entertainment Weekly (5/24/96, p.97) - "...TWISTER careers across the land, never settling anywhere. Ballads from k.d. Lang and Lisa Loeb bump into a boisterous Van Halen chant and a perky cut from Shania Twain. The mix makes for a herky-jerky set..." - Rating: B- Q (8/96, p.128) - 2 Stars (out of 5) - "...Setting the tone are the two tracks specially written by Van Halen,...Soul Asylum['s]...poppy `Miss This'...[and] Buckingham & Nicks [with] `Twisted'--a truly dire Stevie Nicks plodder which not even Linday Buckinghams's pop genius can rescue..." Love the Movie!! Hey....i love the movie but to me the soundtrack wasnt to pleasing like i really lke the song that dusty puts in his car when he says, "its the wonder of nature baby!" and it plays through that system he has ontop of the bus. They should have had that song on the soundtrack. I love that they had Van Halen you cant go wrong with that1 Other than that the soundtrack was ok but the movie is GREAT! Its one of my all time favorites! Submitted by StephyPooh212 (Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 3 found this helpful.
