AROUND THE FUR, the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive ADRENALINE, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening "My Own Summer (Shove It)," serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme: sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to "Headup," while "MX" finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality.
Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles: his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.

just brilliant. yea it's true the songs are very similar but the melodies range a lot. After about 5 listens it's already my favourite deftones album. It's worth the money just to listen to "Be quiet and drive (far away)". the riff is just brilliant, drums and perfect, bass is just as perfect and chino's vocals go well too. The whole album is great. buy it!

the songs on this track almost sound the same... but it's a great formula. Well, some of the tracks don't sound like anything i've heard before. The best songs are: Shove it, Lotion, Headup.

25/5 Deftones at their best
My peronal favorite Deftones cd. ATF combines the rap/metal sound of their debut with the electronic work of later albums, all wrapped around Chino's amazing vocal work.Definately the heaviest Deftones album, though it lacks the song variety of it's follow-up White Pony.Each track starts slow but ends in a chaotic/melodic blur with the best lyrics/vocal work of any band today.

Around the Fur is flat out awesome. Its sounds range from hard metal to moving, melodic sounds in just two songs. Headup is just about the best rock song I have ever heard and Around the Fur itself is one of my favorite songs. Shove It is a great song to lead you into the cd and Mx is a song just makes you want to listen to the cd all over again.

I have to say that Deftones is the only band that I love every single one of their songs. This album is by far my favorite. Every track is amazing but my absolute favorite would have to be MX. There's something about this song with Chino's vocals and Annalyn's voice. Go out and buy this album. You won't be disappointed.
