AROUND THE FUR, the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive ADRENALINE, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening "My Own Summer (Shove It)," serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme: sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to "Headup," while "MX" finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality.
Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles: his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
Recorded at Studio Litho, Seattle, Washington.
Deftones: Chino (vocals); Stef (guitar); Chi (bass); Abe (drums).
Additional personnel: Max Cavalera (vocals, guitar); Annalyn Cunningham (background vocals).
Deftones Around The Fur Songs Around The Fur Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews 1 listen and it was already a 5 star just brilliant. yea it's true the songs are very similar but the melodies range a lot. After about 5 listens it's already my favourite deftones album. It's worth the money just to listen to "Be quiet and drive (far away)". the riff is just brilliant, drums and perfect, bass is just as perfect and chino's vocals go well too. The whole album is great. buy it! Submitted by Will (Jersey, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A great listen the songs on this track almost sound the same... but it's a great formula. Well, some of the tracks don't sound like anything i've heard before. The best songs are: Shove it, Lotion, Headup. Submitted by lenalocke (Edmond, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
25/5 Deftones at their best My peronal favorite Deftones cd. ATF combines the rap/metal sound of their debut with the electronic work of later albums, all wrapped around Chino's amazing vocal work.Definately the heaviest Deftones album, though it lacks the song variety of it's follow-up White Pony. Each track starts slow but ends in a chaotic/melodic blur with the best lyrics/vocal work of any band today. Deftones does it again! Around the Fur is flat out awesome. Its sounds range from hard metal to moving, melodic sounds in just two songs. Headup is just about the best rock song I have ever heard and Around the Fur itself is one of my favorite songs. Shove It is a great song to lead you into the cd and Mx is a song just makes you want to listen to the cd all over again. Submitted by Robert (Mobile, AL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing just like the rest of their stuff I have to say that Deftones is the only band that I love every single one of their songs. This album is by far my favorite. Every track is amazing but my absolute favorite would have to be MX. There's something about this song with Chino's vocals and Annalyn's voice. Go out and buy this album. You won't be disappointed. $11.55 AENIMA was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package. "Aenima" won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
On its second full-length album, this hard-rocking quartet delivers 15 tracks of unrelenting aggression and focused intensity. Rather than overwhelm with huge sonic washes of guitar and booming drums, Tool employs a propulsive, snaky approach that makes use of undulating rhythms and clipped, percussive guitar riffs. Maynard James Keenan's vocals follow suit, opting for a heavily ...

Around The Fur music CDs
$8.65 Along with Korn's 1994 self-titled debut album, the Deftones' 1995 debut, ADRENALINE, helped put California's new rage-filled metal movement on the map, subsequently inspiring countless other bands. Vocalist Chino Moreno was one of the first alternative/metal singers to specialize in the sing/scream style that would become prevalent by the late '90s, while guitarist Stephen Carpenter specialized in repetitive, mammoth guitar riffs that were comparable to both Black Sabbath and Soundgarden. While ...

This version of WHITE PONY includes the track "Back To School (Mini Maggit)", formerly available as a link on an enhanced version of WHITE PONY.
The Deftones have always been known for walking a tightrope of extremes, from crunchy guitar riffing to gentle, melodically fleshed-out chords, with vocals ranging from a breathy hush to devilish bellowing, and some occasional hip-hop phrasing for good measure. With WHITE PONY, Deftones mastermind and vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno has brought the band to full gallop.
Somewhat inspired by the game show, "Feiticeira" recounts a chilling abduction from the first person perspective, ...

Genesis still have a credibility problem which at present just trails the present standing of ex-drummer/vocalist Philip Collins. Duke was the record that shed their 'heavy prog' image and found them beginning to loosen up. Collins had grown in confidence following Peter Gabriel's departure and the band immediately became ...
