Time Capsule is an excellent, 18-track collection that offers a comprehensive overview of the B-52's' career, from their kitschy post-punk beginnings to their unexpected chart success in the early '90s. Along the way, all the big songs -- "Planet Claire," "Rock Lobster," "Private Idaho," "Quiche Lorraine," "Summer of Love" (in its original mix), "Channel Z," "Deadbeat Club," "Love Shack," "Roam," "Good Stuff" -- are here, making this an ideal choice for casual fans. For collectors, there are two new cuts ("Debbie," "Hallucinating Pluto") which are fine, but not particularly noteworthy outside of the fact they're only available on this disc. Then again, the very idea behind Time Capsule is to provide a concise introduction for the curious, and on that level, it works perfectly. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine When Athens, Georgia's B-52s hit the scene in the late '70s, they brought to the burgeoning punk scene a sense of fun and wacky excess. The B-52s would influence the genre for years to come. TIME CAPSULE offers the definitive selection of delights, covering the band's nearly 20-year span of great records. TIME CAPSULE presents the listener with a nonstop dance party, beginning with the early hits and following in chronological order. The B-52s turned an extremely simple concept-sing all the girls names you can come up with-into "52 Girls," an instant pop classic. And who could forget the practically monotone keyboard bouncing away to a back-up chorus of shellfish? Or Fred Schneider looking for his telephone to call his babe and offering to kiss (among other things) her pineapple under the "Strobelight." Other highlights include the huge hit "Love Shack," the beautiful "Roam," and two new tracks not available elsewhere ("Debbie" and "Hallucinating Pluto"). TIME CAPSULE is highly recommended for beginners and fans alike.
Entertainment Weekly (5/29/98, p.77) - "...[most of TIME CAPSULE is] euphorically fresh music that got the punk crowd dancing and reveled in retro irony long before it hardened into a post-modern pose..." - Rating: B Time Capsule Music Review Purchase Time Capsule CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Garbage Version 2.0 CD (1998)

"Special" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. Neither a flat-out retread nor a full-fledged progression, Version 2.0 is almost too accurate a title for Garbage's second album. Everything that made Garbage a success is here -- Shirley Manson's seductive strength, ...

Time Capsule
$41.75 Japanese reissue features a total of 8 tracks packaged in a miniature LP sleeve. Elektra. 2006.
Gamma: Davey Pattison (vocals); Ronnie Montrose (guitar); Jim Alcivar (synthesizer); Alan Fitzgerald (bass); Skip Gillette (percussion). Originally released on Elektra. For Gamma's debut on Elektra, the band picked Mickey Newbury's "Wish I Was" and Hollies/Linda Ronstadt songwriter Clint Ballard Jr.'s "I'm Alive," when maybe Newbury's "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" would have been more appropriate. As far as Ballard's contribution goes, the more familiar "You're No Good" might've worked better than "I'm Alive," creativity not being Gamma's strong suit. With such a cool name as Gamma, the rays that turned Bruce Banner into the Hulk, one might expect Ronnie Montrose to come up with a nice mutated blend of hard-edged Pink Floyd meets Hawkwind. No such luck. The opening track, "Thunder and Lightning," has all the pedestrian elements of a marriage between Foreigner and Bad Company, the mainstream meets the mundane. Ken Scott's production work leaves empty spaces in between the guitar crunch and the keyboard fills, with the work feeling unfinished or rushed. The Hollies' "I'm Alive" is better suited to that band; it drives at a good tempo here but the sound is thin and much too derivative, with backing vocal effects on the verses ...

| | Robert Gomez Brand New Towns CD (2007)
Time Capsule
$11.59 Composer: Robert Gomez. Personnel: Robert Gomez (bass instrument); Eric Pulido, Olivia De Guzman (vocals); Veronika Vassileva, Tamara Cauble (violin); Buffi Jacobs (cello); Zack Hexum (flute); Paul Slavens, Olivier Glissant (accordion); David Pierce (French horn); Jesse Chandler (electric piano); Nick Groesch (vibraphone); Rob Avsharian (drums). Following the same path he took in his 2005 album Etherville, on Brand New Towns Robert Gomez plays shimmery, melancholy indie pop songs that speak of love found and love lost, layering his vocals delicately over acoustic guitar and piano, strings and brass, melodica and organ. But despite all of this, Gomez's music is anything but ornate; it's chamber pop played in the Texas plains, without pretension or excess adornment. In fact, it's the sparseness of it all that comes across more than the gloomy cello or plinking keyboards, echoing through his soft voice and intimate lyrics. He's definitely taken a clue from Elliott Smith, double-tracking his vocals into the sad but slightly threatening melodies that the late singer did so well. "You're so perfect without me," he whispers in the lovely, neo-Baroque "Perfect," with bittersweet ...
