Out of print in the U.S.! Antonio Carlos Jobim brings the Bossa Nova beat to Francis Albert Sinatra for this 1967 album, creating a sleek and sexy collection of songs that will appeal to Pop, Easy Listening, Bossa Nova and Lounge fans. Though they are two strong musical personalities, they allow each other plenty of space and, ultimately, Sinatra's voice magnificently soars above Jobim's simple, yet effective Latin-tinged rhythms. Absolutely irresistible. Warner.
Personnel includes: Frank Sinatra, Antonio Jobim (vocals); Claus Ogerman (conductor); Don-Um Romao (drums). Producer: Sonny Burke. Reissue producer: Gregg Geller. Includes original release liner notes by Stan Cornyn. All tracks have been digitally remastered. By 1967, bossa nova had become quite popular within jazz and traditional pop audiences, yet Frank Sinatra hadn't attempted any Brazil-influenced material. Sinatra decided to record a full-fledged bossa nova album with the genre's leading composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Arranged by Claus Ogerman and featuring Jobim on guitar and backing vocals, Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim concentrated on Jobim's originals, adding three American classics -- "Baubles, Bangles and Beads," "Change Partners," and "I Concentrate on You" -- that were rearranged to suit bossa nova conventions. The result was a subdued, quiet album that used the Latin rhythms as a foundation, not as a focal point. Supported by a relaxed, sympathetic arrangement of muted brass, simmering percussion, soft strings, and Jobim's lilting guitar, Sinatra turns in an especially noteworthy performance; he has never sounded so subtle, underplaying every line he delivers and showcasing vocal techniques that he never had displayed before. Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim doesn't reveal its pleasures immediately; the album is too textured and understated to be fully appreciated within one listen. After a few plays, the album begins to slowly work its way underneath a listener's skin, and it emerges as one of his most rewarding albums of the '60s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine After bossa nova exploded in the U.S in the early Sixties, its primary compositional exponent, Jobim, became known as an artist of unparalleled subtlety, invention and swing. It was only a matter of time, then, before he hooked up with the American who epitomized those qualities. Collaborating on this recording, Sinatra and Jobim both retained enough respect for each other to allow for a true fusion of styles, unfettered by either territorialism or obsequiousness. Sinatra's relaxed, swinging style turned out to be a natural fit for Jobim's slinky, harmonically sophisticated compositions, and Jobim's conductor of choice Claus Ogerman and percussionist Dom-Um Romao are able to find a natural groove with the singer's unique, jazzy phrasing. Since much of Jobim's work was influenced by American music to begin with, it's not such a shock to hear Americanized versions of "How Insensitive" and "Meditiation." Similarly, when Cole Porter's "I Concentrate On You" is lent a Brazilian beat, it sounds like somebody just thought of adding peanut butter to jelly.
Mojo (Publisher) (2/01, p.105) - "...For this immaculate bossa work-out on classics mainly penned by Jobim...Sinatra opted to just ease along, the duo creating rhythmic, late-night music that somehow oozes sex." Frank at his best!! This is a different direction for Sinatra and the music is definitely "sing along". Submitted by sikoris (Doylestown, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Best Album of the Reprise era?? Maybe so. This is Sinatra singing perhaps more softly than he ever did, and the results produced a superb collection of soft bossa nova songs with fantastic arranging and musicianship. The sound fidelity is remarkably good, excellent in fact. Sounds as if it was recorded yesterday-full, rich, wonderful seperation coupled with well centered vocals. If you only buy 2 Reprise era cd's, this one and September of My Years are the must haves, with Moonlight Sinatra a close 3rd. Submitted by buicksu51 (Rhode Island) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$11.15 About Way Out Records WayOutRecords was created in 1997 by F. Jerome Davis (J.D) and Marcus D. Kennon (Shank) who has since pasted away and is very much missed. The first project released on WayOutRecords was the compilation album “Its Rainin Dope” which featured some of Tacoma’s most talented artist Young Krime, Awall, YZE, and Young Gangsta Dog. Several different producers contributed to this compilation like JC, Jonathan, Alex “Big Squigg” Davis and JD.It’s Rainin Dope had a tremendous impact on the local music scene and attracted attention from major radio stations and record labels (Sony). But this album was not the album to bring the nationwide success sought after by every Independent Record label. Next was the release of Ananize “What Would You Do?” this album featured Yuk Mouth formally of the Luniz, Kazy D 187 click, and Pimpsta from Texas. Also featured on this album was a host of talented producers like Alex “Big Squigg” Davis, Jacob “Jay one” Bellamy and J.D.Now with their third release “WE’RE NEXT” featuring Strik & Krusal the new future of WayOutRecords, we wonder if WayOut will achieve that sought after pot of gold, nationwide success. Each year the company seems to grow with their focus remaining the same. Lead by CEO J.D I had a chance to ask him a few questions.Writer: So after 8 years of pushing at this do you ever feel like giving up?J.D: Good question. Well…..at times things don’t seem to go the way you planned them, but if you give up how will you ever know how close you were? At one point I was ready to give it all up and I came across this scripture in the Bible and it read; Lose not what you have worked for less you receive your full reward. I took it like, if I quit now I’ll never get what I deserved from all the hard work I put in. I’ve been told that one of the worse things to live with in life is what if? So I’m not going to have the what if’s.Writer: So how do you feel about the new album “WE’RE NEXT” from Strik & Krusal.J.D: These youngsta’s is hott! We’ve been working with them for awhile, their style, stage ...

$8.39 This is not de ja vou all over again! This is actually the first mix of "Cool Smooth & Sassy." We decided to re-mix the original and make some changes on cuts 4 and 10, to make "Cool Smoth & Sassy" all instrumental. In addition to that we mixed it totally different. "Cool Smooth & Sassy II" is a more conservative mix with Sharon Saulnier doing the vocal ...
