JOY RIDE was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.
James traipses from tight, funky ensemble workouts to soupy, unctuous melanges of sound that do for eardrums what sensual massages to for sore backs. Only a cynic won't fall for these 12 brightly colored instrumental cuts. As always, James has assembled the creme de la creme of studio musicians to help flesh out his keyboard noodlings into grandiose aural landscapes.
"Take Me There" floats its gentle streaks of Kenny G-like soprano sax across a backwash of keyboards, percussion, and heady bass (courtesy of "Late Show With David Letterman" band bassist Will Lee). Saxophone takes center stage on the deeply grooved "Raise the Roof," the instrumental tension of which arises from the alteration of sultry Brazilian rhythms and more orchestral and airy passages. And anyone who isn't drawing a bubble bath, preparing two glasses of champagne, and spooning out mouthfuls of beluga caviar during the downright erotic "It's All Right" has failed to grasp the song's raison d'etre.

| Joy Ride Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Joy Ride by Bob James Another excellent effort by Bob James. Good variety too. Submitted by ses450 (Bellefonte,PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Top class contemporary jazz Joy Ride (1999) is obviously one of the best compilations under the name of Bob James, from the view point of music as well as performance. The album includes indeed very pleasant and versatile compositions. However it shows Bob James rather as virtuoso player and skilful manager, who was able to gather the group of forefront smooth jazz performers and producers. His contribution to this project is similar like in the case of the group Fourplay. This is in contrary to the previous album (Playin’ Hooky – 1997), where Bob James for sure was not …… playing hooky, being the author or co-author of more than half of all compositions, apart of excellent keyboard playing. Nevertheless Joy Ride is a top class contemporary jazz album and you won’t be disappointed. Submitted by Janusz (Krakow, Poland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Best of Bob I have or have listened to over a dozen of Bob James' CDs. This is my favorite. Every song is excellent. You won't be disappointed. Raise the Roof with Boney James is very sweet. I wish all Bob James CDs were this good... Submitted by Mark (Orem, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Joy Ride album
$14.55 Chuck Loeb knows the secret to finding enduring success in the genre, even amidst growing competition by more and more up and coming guitarists who approximate his style: keep the listener guessing from tune to tune with unique stylistic and production curveballs. He's so effective at this that it's impossible to resist as he commands in the title of his new Shanachie disc: simply Listen. Keeping his crisp electric lines front and center, he darts and moves from ...

The master of lite-jazz keyboard stylings unleashes his playful side on PLAYIN' HOOKY. Bob James has long been a favorite among today's young urban professionals who find pop music a little too rambunctious and jazz just a bit too harsh. This album gives James' fans plenty to enjoy. With such distinguished guests as Steve Gadd, Nathan East, Dave Samuels, and Chuck Loeb this disc contains some solid, ...

Joy Ride music CDs
$15.19 After attaining a loyal fan base and performing with renowned artists such as G. Love, Brett Dennen, and Matt Nathanson, John Pringle is releasing his much anticipated first full length alum, Midnight Mass on the Williamsburg Bridge. He has dubbed the album “as honest as it gets” and it plays like an emotional opus with candid lyrics, which seem lifted from his diary. With raw vocals and simple chord progressions, Pringle’s multi-layered lyrics express despair without depression and it is this sincerity, which has gained him such a solid following.Pringle’s musical journey was not an easy or typical one. Pringle, a South Carolina native, spent most of his youth growing up in Georgia as the youngest in a loving family with four older sisters. Even at a young age, Pringle had an undeniable passion for music. His life long admiration for songwriters Eddie Vedder and Bob Dylan is evident ...
