THE MATRIX was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack Album. "Bad Blood" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

The futuristic sci-fi/action flick THE MATRIX features Keanu Reeves as the potential savior of the human race. Whatever one's feelings about this questionable casting decision, the film's soundtrack is an arresting collection that combines industrial with electronica-derived styles and a touch of good old hard rock. Ministry and Marilyn Manson represent the industrial end of the spectrum, while Propellerheads, Prodigy and Rammstein contribute electronic-based, beat-driven tunes that accentuate the film's future shock aspect. Rage Against the Machine closes things out with a characteristically driving rocker, "Wake Up," providing a cataclysmic ending to a soundtrack full of end-of-the-century weltschmerz.

Marilyn Manson,Ministry,Prodig Rob Zombie,Deftones,Machine ++Entertainment Weekly (5/7/99, p.65) - "...six parts extreme metal from the likes of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, throw in some electronic mayhem from Propellerheads and Prodigy, add a pinch of Teutonic rage courtesy Rammstein, and voila' - you've got a potent musical Molotov cocktail..." - Rating: B+

5 stars A russ of techno and metal.
Wow. That's all I have to say. I found this ST very well organized in it's balance between both techno and heavy metal. Manson made an excellent contribution to the sound track as well as the Propellerheads. If you have seen the movie, this is a MUST for your cd collection.

4 stars Perfect Album for Matrix Fans
If you loved "The Matrix," chances are you will dig this album. This soundtrack has a good blend of techno and hard rock. There are some songs that remind you of parts of the movie, like the awesome "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine and "Clubbed to Death" by Rob D. Other songs will have you trying to remember when the song played in the movie but they are still worth the purchase.
Personally, I was disappointed with some songs because they sounded better edited in the movie. I'm also not a big fan of Prodigy or Monster Magnet and their contributions aren't really impressive. Overall the Matrix soundtrack is fresh and will probably make you want to see the movie one more time.

5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air
After seeing the "Matrix" I had to get the soundtrack to it. And just like the movie I was not dissapointed by the soundtrack. Including some techno tracks, as well as more known artists such as Ministry, Rob Zombie, Prodigy, and Rob Zombie, this album was a haven to me from all those sweet tooth artists like Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync.
This album is not only for all our reliable artists, but new ones as well like Hive, Meat Beat Manifesto, Lunatic Calm, and more. Contributing to a wonderful soundtrack.
The Bottomline: if you liked the movie, and you have no problem with Heavy Rock or Techno then its a must have, otherwise you might not like it.

Over That Wave
Ed Johnson Over That Wave CD  (2002)

Matrix Soundtrack music CDs
CD $20.25  Audio Samples
Over That Wave is the kind of soft, Brazilian pop jazz album that artists like Al Jarreau and Flora Purim excelled at during the 1970s. It's gorgeously produced with lush vocal harmonies, authentic Brazilian percussion, and some of Ed Johnson's best compositions. In the best of all possible worlds, this is what contemporary smooth jazz should sound like. The guitarist/singer makes his home in Palo Alto and Over That Wave veritably gushes California. This is the perfect soundtrack for driving your convertible along an ocean-side highway. Johnson has a burnished tenor voice that often lifts into a soaring falsetto, as on the leadoff track, "Diana." He's no slouch on the guitar either, displaying a crisp technique and understanding of both traditional jazz and Latin styles. You never get the sense either that Johnson -- a middle-aged white guy -- is trying to ape Brazilian music. It's like he found a way to combine the soft rock of Christopher Cross with the expansive sound of Milton Nascimento. The up-tempo bossa "Lost in Leaving," featuring hiccuping cuica and flamenco flourishes, is a good example of how he is able to marry his melodic pop sensibility to his fussy jazz integrity. Lyrically, Johnson has a nice way of carrying a trope throughout a song, such as on the soul-inflected title track. He sings, "The state of love/Flotsam in the sea washing over me/Cascade of love/I never got over that wave." While Over That Wave doesn't break any new ground, it does reference those great albums of the '70s in ...

Omaha Indian Music-Omaha Pow-Wow Songs
Omaha Indian Music-Omaha Pow-Wow Songs CD  (2006)

Matrix Soundtrack songs

There are several different stories of how the Pow-wow was started - some believe that the war dance societies of the Ponca and other Southern Plains tribes originated it, while another school of thought opined that it is the result of tribes like the Omaha Indians being forced onto reservations, after which the government also forced them to have dances for the public to come and see. Whatever the case is, Pow-wow singers are very important figures in Omaha Indian culture. Without them there would be no dancing. The songs are of many varieties, from religious to war to social. As various tribes gather together, they share their songs, often changing the songs so singers of different tribes could join. Thus, some songs today are sung with no words, yet still hold special meaning to those who know the song. Many songs are still sung in native tongue either newly composed or ...
