Proving the old adage that great art often comes on the heels of personal turmoil, Nina Gordon uses the gorgeous popcraft of her solo debut to exorcise quite a few personal demons. In 1998, the former Veruca Salt co-founder found herself simultaneously breaking up with her boyfriend of four years and her best friend Louise Post, with whom she had formed the band in 1991. Bouncing back from all this chaos, Gordon chooses producer Bob Rock (who worked with Gordon's former group as well as Bon Jovi, Metallica and Aerosmith) and a studio crew consisting of former members of Boston's Letters To Cleo and L.A. popmeister Jon Brion.
Throughout TONIGHT, lush Beatlesque hooks bubble up on songs like "Now I Can Die" and "Fade to Black," recalling Susanna Hoffs' second self-titled album. Elsewhere, Gordon balances out the melancholy of "The End of the World" and the title track with the kind of rock & roll crunch and crisp handclaps on tracks like "Badway" and "Number One Camera" that sound like outtakes of her old band.

Nina Gordon Tonight & The Rest Of My Life Songs Tonight & The Rest Of My Life Music Tonight & The Rest Of My Life Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Very glad I gave it a second listen! I bought this album because I heard the single 'Horses in the City', and thought Nina's voice was worth a listen. I popped in the CD and by the end of the last song I was bored, and planned to toss it into my ever-growing "I can't believe I spent 15 bucks on this!" pile of CDs. BUT...I made the mistake of leaving it in my car and took a 2-day trip. By the second listen, 'Fade to Black' popped out at me like it was a hidden bonus track I hadn't heard the first time through. Then '2003', 'Now I can Die', and 'New Years Eve' all started filling in the once boring spaces with brilliant vocals and deceptively simple tunes.
After several years I still listen to this CD at least once a month. I'm a guy who's more into metal and classical music, but great female vocalists like Sade, Dido, Sarah Mclachlan, Sinead, Tori Amos, and Nina - they get my attention. Nina's voice reminds me of a hopeful girl on a dark and rainy morning. You'll understand when you hear the album. Highly recommended- Give it a listen- or two! 4 stars. Nina-What a wonderful Voice I came across the music by Nina Gordan by actually chance. I was watching the preview for the moive The Notebook and heard the song "tonight and the rest of my Life" playing in the background. The song was enchanting and I was expecting to actually get it on the soundtrack for the Notebook. However the song is not actually featured in the movie nor in the moive soundtrack which is a pity as it really does suit the moive's overall character. Thus I started having a search for it on the internet to find out who actually sung the song. So here I came across Nina Gordan. The Cd is not available in Australia- The local importer has discontinued it and it is only available via import. The song failed to get any momentem here in Australia simply because it wasn't released. It is a pity because I do feel that if it was released properly then it would have made Nina Gordan a household name. Submitted by cperera (Melbourne, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A great name in music Nina Gordon tops all with "Tonight & The Rest of My Life." This is art in the form of music. No matter what type of music you like, you will like the way Nina expresses real life in these songs. Submitted by a reviewer (Baton Rouge, LA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Patti Smith had withdrawn from the world of rock after 1979s WAVE. When DREAM OF LIFE appeared in 1988, she had a new guitarist and husband in former MC5 guitarist Fred "Sonic" Smith, and a smoother sound that abandoned WAVE's slickness. Though pigeonholed as disappointing on its initial release, DREAM OF LIFE is, in retrospect, ...
