As the title suggests, there are plenty of dueling banjos to be found on Feuding Banjos: Bluegrass Banjo of the Southern Mountains. This pleasant collection of 18 bluegrass melodies plucked, picked, and claw hammered on the banjo features performances by a star-studded cast of musicians. Multi-instrumentalist Eric Weissberg of "Dueling Banjos" fame makes an appearance here, as does "Classical Gas" guitarist Mason Williams, Mike Seeger of the New Lost City Ramblers, respected session musician David Lindley, and "Walk Right In" songwriter Erik Darling. The melodies on this collection range from tunes like "Cripple Creek" or Dick Weissman's spirited rendition of "Old Joe Clark" to lesser-known tunes like the evocative "Saturday Night Banjo." Other than the occasional appearance of a fiddle or harmonica, the majority of this album is dedicated to banjo solos or duets only. This is the perfect complement to a lazy night by the wood stove or a long drive through the Ozarks. ~ Margaret Reges

Feuding Banjos - Bluegrass Banjo Of The Southern Mountains. songs
$8.09 Few would dispute that this collection is the Holy Grail of blues harmonica. Like the other entries in Chess Records' HIS BEST series, the Little Walter compilation is beautifully selected, sequenced, remastered, and packaged. At 20 tracks, HIS BEST gives a satisfying, economical summary of Walter's genius, and defends his title as the king of blues harp men. As a member of ...

Feuding Banjos - Bluegrass Banjo Of The Southern Mountains. music CDs
$13.19 By 1988, when this album was originally recorded and released, Ralph Stanley had reverted to a mandolin-less instrumental lineup much like the one he and his brother had used early in their career as a band -- a move originally designed to keep the group from sounding too much like a direct imitation of Bill Monroe's ...

| | Alexis Korner Red Hot From Alex CD (1964)
Feuding Banjos - Bluegrass Banjo Of The Southern Mountains. CD music
$10.59 One of Alexis Korner's better and more obscure albums, Red Hot From Alex, features the 1964 version of Blues Incorporated, supported by alumnus Dick Heckstall-Smith on tenor sax on a handful of tracks, recreating their live sound in the studio. The results are reasonably successful, the group at times achieving a fairly intense, swinging ensemble sound that, at its best, carries an infectious level of excitement. This band's sound is a lot slicker throughout than that of the version of Blues Incorporated that played the Marquee Club in 1962 and 1963 and left behind the album R&B From The Marquee. The opener, "Woke Up This Morning," has a convincingly funky sound, driven ...
