| | Bobby Brown Dance!...Ya Know It CD Bobby Brown Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Cynics tend to dismiss remix albums as cheap exploitation and opportunism on the part of labels. But when the remixing is handled by inventive DJs, they definitely have their pleasures. Dance!...Ya Know It!, obviously fueled by MCA Records' desire to cash in on the enormous success of Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel, is neither one of the better nor one of the worst remix albums available. While the primary focus is material from Cruel -- including the hard and rugged new jack swing of "My Prerogative" and "Don't Be Cruel" and the vulnerable romanticism of "Roni," "Every Little Step," and "Rock Wit' Cha" -- Brown's debut solo album, King of Stage, is represented by remixes of "Seventeen," "Girl Next Door," and "Baby, I Wanna Tell You Something." Much of the remixing is done by hit R&B producers L.A. Reid and Babyface, who are far from adventurous and fail to add anything really new, interesting, or significant to the songs. Though an enjoyable release and one that works well enough as a best-of, Dance!...Ya Know It! is hardly essential listening for those who already own Stage and Cruel. ~ Alex Henderson

| | Club Nouveau Life, Love & Pain CD (1986)
Dance!...Ya Know It CD music
$9.29 The funky, dance-oriented R&B act Club Nouveau stormed onto the musical scene in late 1986 with Life, Love, & Pain. Half the songs on this eight-title set received some form of airplay, but none matched the success of their lighthearted, reggae/hip-hop remake of the Bill Withers classic "Lean on Me," which topped the American pop charts for two weeks in 1987. The follow-up, "Why You Treat Me So Bad," only peaked at number 39 on the ...

The bad girls of R&B are back at it again and after a long layoff. Chili, Left Eye, and T-Boz, collectively known as TLC prove that nothing's gonna change their world. With classic TLC demeanor on tracks like "No Scrubs" (sure to get even the most motion-challenged dancer to bust a move), "I'm Good At Being Bad," (TLC at its best) "Silly Ho" and "If They Knew," TLC reminds us why being "bad" is sometimes so attractive. But with all the bad-girl image that TLC works so hard to project, they show their versatility on tracks like "I Miss You So Much" and "Dear Lie." These two cuts show some sentimentality, spotlighting a different side of the TLC their fans have come to know and love.

| | Tamia CD (1998)
Dance!...Ya Know It songs
$8.89 It may be a natural sense of restraint (otherwise known as taste) or just a pipes issue that keeps R&B siren Tamia from engaging in cliche melisma histrionics on her self-titled debut. Similarly, it may be a keen ear for perfect pop/R&B hooks or just a collective unconsciousness thing that brings her to base "Falling For You" around a sample of the Emotions' '70s classic "Best Of My Love." Regardless of the motivations behind her choices, TAMIA presents a new voice in a flattering light. It's an album full of sinuous, sexy tunes that will make fans of contemporary R&B prick up their ears.

| | Rough Guide To The Music Of Thailand CD (2003)
Dance!...Ya Know It album
$13.15 Thai music hasn't had much exposure on the world stage, but on the basis of the excellent Rough Guide to the Music of Thailand compilation, it's only a matter of time before it emerges as a global force. The emphasis here is on the lukthung and morlam styles, which originated in northern Thailand, illustrated in both traditional and more modern pop forms, but there are also oddities like the Thai Elephant Orchestra (which, yes, is made up of elephants) on "An Elephant's Swan Song." Although it doesn't say so in the comprehensive booklet, Chawiwan Damnoen's track would seem to feature the khaen, a kind of massive forerunner of the harmonica (with origins in China) that produces a fascinating full sound closer to an accordion. While the styles have been modernized, few have done it as effectively as China Dolls, whose "Oh Oh Oh" was one of the biggest Thai singles of 2001, a series of absolutely ...
