Neal Schon's perpetual quest for a heavy metal posse ends with Hardline. Freed from the corporate confines of Journey and Bad English, Schon unleashes pent-up guitar firepower. The best tunes on Hardline's solitary offering do shake, rattle, and rock. Three of these scorchers found FM radio: "Hot Cherie," "Rhythm From a Rad Car," and "Takin' Me Down." The ballads are retched, naturally. Sissy rock seems to be a big part of Schon's bag as he stays with Journey. At the time of Double Eclipse, principled rocking out was even more important as alternative closed in, so Hardline never really had a chance. Nice to hear Schon work it, though. ~ Doug Stone

Hardline Double Eclipse Songs Double Eclipse Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Solid yet generic pop metal Other than the fact that ex-Journey axeslinger Neal Schon is in this band, Hardline have little that distinguish them from the rest of the Steelhearts, Extremes, and Firehouses out there. Sure, they can write some catchy songs, and Johnny Gioeli (who I believe was just arrested for some kind of fraud) has a great voice, but overall there's little on this CD I hadn't heard before, which isn't a good thing. Still, songs like Rhythm From A Red Car, Dr. Love, and Hot Cherie (the most memorable song from here, and, incidentally, is reminiscent of Journey) are all hard-rocking exercises in pop-metal fun. However, the power ballads, especially I'll Be There, are horribe, and Neal Schon's instrumental 31-91 is boring. If you like pop-metal, this is a decent buy, but only if you can get it cheap: it's not worth paying 15 or 20 bucks for. Submitted by mcsavage (Pittsburgh, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Awesome Johnny Gioeli has done some magor vocals in the past with Axel Rudi Pell and with Jun Senoue on the Crush 40 album (written in the purpose for Sega games) but i think the true talent can be heard really clearly on this album. On the contrary to a few others, I like 31 91 and i was happy with the overall quality of the album. True talent shows on all levels. An A+ from me! Not Bad It's quite a good album but it just can't reach the godness of Hardline 2...Here are some great songs like everything, rythem for a red car and hot cherie, but Hardline 2 has a lot better songs than this one ;)...I just like it better cause gioeli's voice is stronger and better here...I suggest to all of you Hardline 2 ;)! good i bought this cd because of the vocalist johnny gioeli. he has a great rock 'n' roll voice. neal schon from journey and santana fame plays guitar and was in on producing and arranging the music. this cd is a bit too tame for my tastes but the vocals are outstanding. this is a slick and professional effort. if you like 80's style bands you will like this cd. i recommend axel rudi pell's "oceans of time" cd to hear gioeli's voice in prime form. he is an amazing singer. a new hardline cd is in the works and could be worth checking out.
