It's a fine score (as is to be expected from John Williams), although parts of it are reminiscent of his scores from Hook and JFK. The Chieftains are featured on three tracks, and the album includes Enya's "Book of Days." One thing is puzzling, however. Why, when "Book of Days" is in Gaelic on Enya's Shepherd Moons album, is it translated into English for a movie about people from Ireland? ~ Tavia Hobart

This installment of the Sony Masterworks label's 2007 reissue series presents the original 1980s cast recording of Sunday IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, Stephen Sondheim's musical about the life and work of French painter Georges Seurat. The production stars Mandy Patinkin as Seurat and Bernadette Peters as Dot (a clever nod to the artist's style), allowing the renowned vocal powerhouses to play off of each other in a number of duets, most notably on the bright "Color and Light" and the melancholy "We Do Not Belong Together."
Songwriter Stephen Sondheim and librettist James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George, an examination of the life of the artist as seen through a fictional depiction of Georges Seurat's creation of the pointillist masterpiece Un Dimanche d'été á l'île de la Grande Jatte (A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of la Grande Jatte) (1884-1986), was highly regarded during its Broadway run in 1984-1985, winning both a Pulitzer Prize and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
