||Roots of Rock|
Buddy Holly's greatest hits is an essential to any rock collection. Its rhythyms are stark mix of what had come in music before Buddy Holly and what was to come in the sixties and seventies. The songs are all catchy and offer easy listening in almost any situation. This collection is truly a masterpiece of rock and roll.

Actually this is a replacement for one that was stolen many years ago (the LP). I really enjoy Buddy's music, as I grew up with it, and am happy to have this replacement to, once again, be able to warble along.

||The Roots of Rock Don't Fade Away|
"Maybe Baby" you should get this cd! Buddy Holly took rural African-American (Delta) Blues, added a faster, driving beat and his distinctive vocal style and the excitement just explodes! "Peggy Sue" is an outstanding example of "single effect" in a song--the rocking rythmn just keeps coming at you. We had never heard stuff like this before. I am amazed by how well the music wears. Instrumentation is sparse but used to great effect. There were no synthesisers or special effects pedals; no electric drums. The raw energy and musical inventiveness of Holly and his band and his producer, Norman Petty, helped launch the rock-n-roll era and it's all here on this compilation for us to listen to.
