| | Mama's & The Papa's Greatest Hits CD Mama's & The Papa's Discography of CDs
The best-sounding--the early Mamas And The Papas CDs were notoriously dreadful, sonically--and most comprehensive of the many Mamas and the Papas compilations. GREATEST HITS proves why this band should be better known for their exquisite harmonies and mastery of pop hooks instead of the lurid tales of drug addiction and intra-band romances which came out much later.
The only compilation which contains all of their top 40 hits, from the classic debut "California Dreamin'" to the glorious light psychedelia of "Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)," plus a generous handful of album tracks, GREATEST HITS is a perfect introduction to the retroactively-named genre of sunshine pop, that folk-rock-based, acid-kissed gentle pop music of '66-'68. This may be all the Mamas And The Papas you'll need, but if you're a fan of '60s pop, you do need this.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Greatest Hits album
$15.65 Crosby, Still, and Nash topped their enormously popular self-titled 1969 debut by adding Neil Young to their ranks and expanding their stylistic and sonic range. The result, released in 1970, was an artistic and commercial success, representing the talents of the four primary players to excellent effect. More ambitious and incisive than its CSN predecessor, DEJA VU brings together folk, psychedelia, jazz, African, and Middle Eastern flavors, Tin Pan Alley, and hard rock in a manner that captures the tenor of the era's counterculture without sounding dated.
The group's ...
| | Muddy Waters Folk Singer CD (1964) Remastered
Greatest Hits CD music
$8.49 Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back to those days. He's accompanied sparsely by Willie Dixon, drummer Clifton James and a young Buddy Guy, who provide a ...
| | Animals Retrospective CD (2004)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$15.09 Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from ...
| | Very Best Of Randy Travis CD (2004)
Greatest Hits songs
$11.49 Randy Travis emerged in the 1980s at the forefront of country's New Traditionalist movement, with a sound that recalled classic country balladeers George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Lefty Frizzell. His pure, honest approach to heart-wrenching saloon songs resonated with country audiences in a major way, making him a star. This 20-song collection is a single-disc distillation of Travis's long, fruitful career, and is the perfect place to start exploring his work.
While there are some up-tempo honky-tonk numbers here, it's the slow-burn ballad that is Travis's stock in trade, and there's no shortage of those. From the tormented would-be philanderer of "On the Other Hand" (his first big hit) to the jilted lover of the heartbroken lament "It's Just a ...

UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance.
What is ultimately so sad about Kurt Cobain taking his own life is that he was so giving to others, constantly campaigning for the artists who influenced him. Cobain breathed new life into the Raincoats' career (who thanked him on their latest EP), brought a wider audience ...
| | Out Of Focus Four Letter Monday Afternoon CD (1972) (Import) Germany
Greatest Hits music CDs
$51.25 Out of Focus' third album was their magnum opus, where all the stops are pulled out and the group, with the addition of a horn section and bongos, was at their most inventive. As a natural progression from the earlier two records, Four Letter Monday Afternoon has even longer instrumental sections, as well as far more variety. The double album opens with the sidelong track "L.S.B.," which is either a misspelling of LSD or stands for "Love S Burning." This track ...
