Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album album for sale Product Description

Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album album for sale by Lynyrd Skynyrd was released Nov 17, 1998 on the Universal label. To sample Lynyrd Skynyrd's true roots, the 1998 collection SKYNYRD'S FIRST goes back even further than their official debut release, 1973's PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album songs Comprised of 17 tracks, SKYNYRD'S FIRST showcases early demos and outtakes that the band recorded prior to signing with MCA Records--when they were at their young and hungriest. While some of the tracks have already appeared on past releases (such as 1978's SKYNYRD'S FIRST AND LAST and their 1991 self-titled box set), longtime fans won't want to pass up having such great early versions of "Free Bird," "Simple Man," and the country-tinged "Seasons" on a single disc. Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album CD music contains a single disc with 17 songs.   ...See Full Description

Skynyrd's First Recordings Were Quite Good
When Lynyrd Skynyrd went down to Muscle Shoals to record with Jimmy Johnson, they were full of raw energy, which is what you'll hear on this album.

Skynyrd's First... to last
A brief history about these recordings (corrections of the Notes) After Larry Jungstrom (bass) called it quits and Bob Burns (drums) stepped back in late 1970, in came Greg Walker (bass) and Rick(y) Medlocke (drums, yessir) to take a chance.

Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album songs SECOND HELPING is also available with PRONOUNCED LEH'NERD SKIN'ERD on one cassette. It was hard to believe that Lynyrd Skynyrd could possibly top its classic, near-perfect 1973 debut, PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. However, the boys from Florida accomplished the near-impossible with their sophomore release one year later, SECOND HELPING. It's hard to determine the better album of the two, but both proved to be a solid one-two punch that made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the '70s' biggest (and unfortunately, most tragic) rock bands. SECOND HELPING also helped define and create the Southern rock movement, as proven by such tracks as the classic anthem "Sweet Home Alabama" (which include the now-famous dig at Neil Young), the cautionary rocker "The Needle & the Spoon," and the biographical tale of "Workin' For MCA." With its fine writing and playing, and scores of hard-hitting Southern rock riffs and grooves, SECOND HELPING assured Skynyrd's ascendancy to rock stardom and FM radio immortality. 4 Bonus Tracks.W/M.Bloomfield, P.Butterfield,O.Spann,B.Miles+ Recorded at the Record Plant, Los Angeles and Studio One Doraville, Georgia in January, 1974. Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album buy CD music Recorded live at the Fox Theater, Atlanta, Georgia in July 1976. Originally released on MCA (6001). Includes original liner notes by Cameron Crowe and reissue liner notes Ron O'Brien. Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz (Audio Mechanics, Los Angles, California). The '70s was the era of the live album--it seemed like just about every rock band used the format to bolster its career. But Lynyrd Skynyrd was already established as the premier Southern rock outfit by the time of its 1976 in-concert double album, ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD. What this release did was serve as proof that the non-stop touring the band had been indulging in since the dawn of the decade had made them an untouchable, rock-solid live act. These renditions show that the band poured its heart and soul into its live set--the moving "Tuesday's Gone" is even more gut wrenching than its studio incarnation. "Saturday Night Special" is just as fierce, and "Sweet Home Alabama" takes on a party atmosphere, while the near 12-minute album closing "Free Bird" stretches to even more epic proportions than the studio version. Additional Tracks; Live Recording; Deluxe Edition Producer: Tom Dowd. Reissue producer: Ron O'Brien. Additional personnel: Steve Gaines (guitar); Sam McPherson (harmonica); Cassie Gaines, Jo Billingsley, Leslie Hawkins (background vocals).

Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album album for sale More rock than Little Feat, but with a similar Southern boogie feel and absolute top-notch musicianship. [sentence fragment okay with Muze?] Al Kooper produced this record, which explains the sensitive use of strings and piano. Although tracks such as "I Ain't The One," "Simple Man," and "Tuesday's Gone" are outstanding, the one to wait for is "Free Bird," a song that rivals "Stairway To Heaven" for hard rock credibility. The nine-minute epic starts with organ and slide and builds in a similar way, but at 4:44 it changes into fifth gear and the air guitars are out in force. Additional Tracks Recorded at Studio One, Doraville, Georgia. Engineers include: Bob "Tub" Langford, Rodney Mills, Danny Turbeville. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Ronnie Van Zant (vocals); Ed King (guitar, bass instrument); Gary Rossington, Allen Collins (guitar); Billy Powell (keyboards); Bob Burns (drums). Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album CD music Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz (Audio Mechanics, Los Angeles, California). Besides being a touring warhorse, Lynyrd Skynyrd cranked out albums at a brisk rate during its original lineup's brief recording career, averaging at least one new release per year. 1975 saw the emergence of Skynyrd's third album in as many years, NUTHIN' FANCY. While the album didn't contain a smash hit single as had its predecessors ("Free Bird," "Sweet Home Alabama," etc.), it proved to be another solid collection of tough Southern rock. "Saturday Night Special" remains one of the band's fiercest rockers, while such other compositions as "On the Hunt" and "Whiskey Rock-A-Roller" have become Skynyrd standards as well. Recorded at WEBB IV Studios, Atlanta, in January 1975 and Studio One, Doraville, Georgia in August 1974. Bonus live tracks recorded at Bill Graham's Winterland, San Francisco, California on April 27, 1975. Includes liner notes by Ron O'Brien. Producer: Al Kooper. Reissue producer: Ron O'Brien. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Ronnie Van Zant (vocals); Allen Collins (guitar, piano, organ, Moog synthesizer, percussion, background vocals); Ed King (acoustic, electric & slide guitars, Moog bass); Gary Rossington (acoustic & electric guitar); Billy Powell (keyboards); Leon Wilkeson (bass, background vocals); Artimus Pyle (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Barry Harwood (dobro, mandolin); Jimmy Hall (harmonica); David Foster, Billy Powell (piano); Bobbye Hall (percussion).

Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album buy CD music Studio tracks recorded at Capricorn Studios, Macon, Georgia and Record Plant, Los Angeles, California in 1975. Live tracks recorded at Bill Graham's Winterland, San Francisco, California on March 7, 1976. Includes liner notes by Ron O'Brien. Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz (Audio Mechanics, Los Angeles, California). Perhaps Lynyrd Skynyrd's most underrated album, 1976's GIMME BACK MY BULLETS was another inspired and consistent set from one of Southern rock's founding fathers. Like its predecessor, NUTHIN' FANCY, Skynyrd's fourth release didn't produce a hit single like its first couple of albums had, but there were several songs that subsequently became standards for the band. Highlights include the album-opening title track, which captures Skynyrd at their toughest, powered on by muscular guitar riffing courtesy of Gary Rossington and the late Allen Collins, as well as "Searching," the latter being included later in the year on ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD. Additional personnel includes: Barry Harwood (dobro, mandolin); Lee Freeman (harmonica); The Honnicutts (background vocals). Producer: Tom Dowd. Reissue producer: Ron O'Brien. Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album songs Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz (Mulholland Music, Hollywood, California). Sadly, STREET SURVIVORS would prove to be the final Lynryd Skynyrd album of the Ronnie Van Zant-era. Only three days after this, the band's fifth studio album (sixth overall) was released in 1977, the band boarded the tragic plane flight that killed singer Ronnie Van Zant and new members guitarist Steve Gaines and background vocalist Cassie Gaines. The fact that STREET SURVIVORS was one of Skynyrd's best albums only intensified the tragedy--it appeared as though the band was peaking artistically. "What's Your Name" caught the band at its most fun and playful, the grim "That Smell" warned against the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction, and "I Know A Little" showed off its country roots. Additional Tracks Recorded at Criteria Studios, Miami, Florida and Studio One, Doraville, Georgia. Includes liner notes by Ron O'Brien. Reissue producer: Ron O'Brien.
