| | Danny Elfman So Lo Soundtrack CD
A solo outing that fails by a wide margin to be distinguishable from an Oingo Boingo record. The key highlight is "Gratitude," which turned up in a stronger mix as part of the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. ~ Steven McDonald
Danny Elfman is the lead singer for Oingo Boingo.

So Lo Soundtrack
$12.49 The Sin of Pride was by far the most exploratory album the Undertones ever issued and, other than their debut, fares the best. Whereas Hypnotised had been another punk rave-up album and Positive Touch had been a psychedelic outing, The Sin of Pride was a deep look into the soul music of the '60s done with a post-punk sensibility. Obviously, ABC and Paul Weller's Style Council were reference points on this trail, but O'Neill's own way of hearing created a kind of psychedelic soul that was very different in approach and execution than either of those chart-topping acts. Covers such as Leon Ware's "Got to Have You Back," which opens the LP, and Smokey Robinson's "Save Me," which closes it, are bookends for a moving blend of funky, driving, deeply textured psychedelic soul music that makes pearls of tracks such as "Untouchable," with its driving basslines ...

Born in Middletown, Connecticut, this handsome, 6'3" young man is positioning himself to take the music industry by storm. He is the next great male R&B sensation, Jay-El. Jay-El's talent for singing was discovered at the age of four when he began singing in church choirs. By the time he was a pre-teen, Jay-El was in high demand to sing at several banquets and parties in his community. In August 2000, Jay-El appeared on ShowTime at the Apollo in New York. He exhibited uncommon poise and confidence with his a cappella rendition of Usher's Bedtime to a packed house at the Apollo. He received a standing ovation from the crowd, and hysterical screams from most of the women in the audience. He beat out several talented artists, including a long-standing champion, when he took 1st place three times in a row before the Apollo season ended. Jay-El's performances aired in December, 2000, again in April, 2001, and in syndication. Millions across the country viewed his performances, and the response from diverse individuals within the entertainment industries and general public has been overwhelming. To this day, Jay-El constantly meets individuals who were moved by his Apollo performances. In 2003, Jay-El released his first single entitled, "Be About Yours" from the album with the same title. Jay-El's ...

| | Smith, Erica & The 99 Cent Dreams Snowblind CD (2008)
So Lo Soundtrack
$12.65 Snowblind is a song cycle of lust, longing, spite, despair, and reluctant hope, with a dash of abject bliss thrown in for good measure. The album undergoes complete sonic disintegration midway through track 6. In track 7 the band bounces back with a shy question. And on they go. Temporary implosions aside, Snowblind will feel warm and familiar to any fan of Erica Smith’s 2002 release Friend or Foe––both would be considered singer/songwriter records––but Snowblind is more muscular, with a crystalline, full-band sound. The 99 Cent Dreams (Dann Baker on guitar, Dave Campbell on drums, and Alan Young on bass) push the songs to their outer limits and own every genre they touch. The Merseybeat-influenced “Easy Now,” the sparkling bossa nova piece “Tonight,” the frenetic New Wave “Where and When,” the gentle, psychedelic “Start From Nothing,” and the swaying country tune “The World is Full of Pretty Girls,” ...
