Steppenwolf's sophomore effort, simply titled THE SECOND and released in '68 (the same year the band's self-titled debut appeared), is every bit as strong as its predecessor. Like the debut, THE SECOND contains one of classic rock's great anthems, "Magic Carpet Ride," which merges funky organ jamming with hard rock.
Steppenwolf offers one of its best protest songs here, "Don't Step on the Grass, Sam," along with more of its trademark hard-rock sound ("28"). With THE SECOND, and the '70s just around the corner, Steppenwolf became one of the world's leading hard-rock bands.

Steppenwolf The Second Songs Steppenwolf The Second Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) A great Album "Don't Step On the Grass", "Magic Carpet Ride," are two great rock songs not only to come from Steppenwolf, but from their era. This album does not contatin a single dissapointing number, but instead incorporates a broad array of musical style. A great "driving on the freeway" album for sure. Can't go wrong with John Kay. Great Moments, but... This album is good but not great I'm sorry to say. The sound quality is dryer and less transparent sounding than the first. The Album opens with a different vocalist and he reappears on the Song 28. In my opinion this was a mistake. John Kay's vocal sound is Steppenwolf.
The song writing and musicianship are still excellent, but this record does not stand up as well as the first. It may have been due to the record label trying to rush the artist for that next album while they're hot!
That said, you still get more good tracks than most new artist give you today and there is diversity in the record. Most bands today every song has the same sound and it becomes monotonous. Some of the tracks sound dated. Sound Quality influences the listener a lot more than you know. Re-Mastering this album would do miracles.

Steppenwolf The Second album
$15.05 The Residents have remixed their first album from 1971, the never released Warner Bros. Album. The Warner Bros. Album was the group's first demo tape. They mailed it anonymously (they didn't have a name yet) to Harve Halverstadt at Warner Brothers. Halverstadt was chosen because he had worked with Captain Beefheart, one of the group's musical heroes. The tape was returned with a rejection addressed to 'Residents, 20 Sycamore St., San Francisco'. This, of course, gave the group their name, which first appeared as 'The ...

$13.69 I\'m a 43yr old praise and worship leader, I\'ve been leading praise and worship at my church for 8yrs now and I love it! I\'m originally from Pasadena California, I now live in the beautiful Seattle area. I became a christian my last year of high school and have been pursuing a deeper intimacy with God ever since then. Along with more then a few bumps and pot holes in my journey, I\'m still pursuing God! I first started singing in our high school choir and actually won best soloist of the year, my last year of school. I come from very muscial family, my father is a gospel singer along with my now deceased grandparents. My mother also is a wonderful vocalist and pursued a career in music in the mid 70\'s. I\'m the second of four boys in my family.I believe that music is one of the most powerful tools that God uses, to reach the heart and soul of men and women, next to the word of God and His Holy Spirit of course. Music has a way of touching that part of you that only a great melody, the hypnotic grooves of a great instrument or a sweet powerful chorus or phrase can. Music also has a way of lifting a weary, tired and dispairing heart, right into a place of hope, peace and joy. This is truly my passion and purpose in the songs the Father gives me to write and sing. To remind you of our hope in Christ, and minister to that broken and frail part of every man, woman, boy and girl. My mission is to convey the Gospel of Jesus Christ, through song. To help mankind focus on the power of God for every situation in their lives, through intimacy with Jesus and the power of music, in praise and worship. I believe and trust, that this CD \"Inspired\" represents that. I called it Inspired because I never set down and purposely wrote any of the songs represented on this album. God in my everyday ...
