Night Ranger's 1982 debut, DAWN PATROL, was a surprise success (albeit a moderate one)--due largely to the MTV anthem "Don't Tell Me You Love Me." But it also set the stage perfectly for the massive commercial breakthrough success of their sophomore album, MIDNIGHT MADNESS.
For their second disc, the band streamlined their sound to focus more on the pop side of their songwriting, and scored bigtime with a pair of 1984's most played radio hits--the power ballad "Sister Christian," and the melodic rocker "When You Close Your Eyes." MIDNIGHT MADNESS helped make Night Ranger one of the most popular rock acts of the early-to-mid-80's. Another Great Night Ranger Album MIDNIGHT MADNESS is another great Night Ranger album. It's not as consistent as DAWN PATROL because the ballad "Sister Christian" is just too commercial for my liking, but the other songs are as good as anything on the earlier album. The band made one more great studio CD, 7 WISHES, and a hot live album, LIVE IN JAPAN, and then went on the 80s revival circuit. Submitted by Adam (Suffern NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best Night Ranger CD I'd give almost all Night Ranger CD's 3 or 4 stars because of the amazing musical talent of this band but this is the best. Not a 5 because of the commercial radio songs. "Sister Christian" and "When You Close Your Eyes" were just too commercial for my taste....everything else ROCKS..."Rumours In the Air" and "Why Does Love Have to Change"... AMAZING... especially the duelling guitar solo in the latter.... Submitted by Darin (Houston, MN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

At first glance, this looks like a very enticing collection, and in many ways it is: 53 songs covering a lot of the highlights and rarities in the band's history from 1963 through 1969. There are a few flaws, however, some of them minor and others potentially major, depending upon one's interests. For starters, it doesn't follow strict chronological order, opening with their biggest international hit, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," from the summer of 1964, and then proceeding backward through October of 1963 and "Cock-A-Hoop" to July of 1963 and their jazzy debut, "Why Should We Not." That's not a huge problem; though for anyone who isn't familiar with the history, it's going to require a little sorting out. The EMI hits are all there on disc one, along with a few good album tracks, some superb B-sides, and compelling EP tracks ("With God on Our Side," "There's No Living Without Your Loving"). On the other hand, it's not as though most of that material isn't out somewhere already, and serious fans may feel cheated, in the sense that Raven could have (theoretically) raided EMI's vaults for an incredibly solid double-disc set of completely classic Manfred Mann up through mid-1966. They also might have then avoided the six Paul Jones solo tracks that close disc one, which, despite their chronological relationship to the group work, are the kind of commercial pop that doesn't mesh with anything here and does nothing but break the mood of this disc.
Disc two is devoted to the Mike d'Abo version of the band, which recorded successfully for Mercury Records but was never as musically ambitious as the earlier incarnation of the group; there's some good music among the 15 tracks on disc two, including rare B-sides and album cuts, such ...

$28.89 BLUE MOVES was Elton John's first double-album since 1973's GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD and his last full collaboration with Bernie Taupin before taking a two-year break from the lyricist. MOVES also signaled the end of a Golden Age marked by a string of wildly successful albums (including the aforementioned ROAD and CARIBOU) and non-stop, sold-out tours. This melancholy 1976 release includes what would be EJ's last Top 10 hit for three years ("Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word") and is loaded with numbers reflecting the ennui and burnout both John and Taupin were experiencing at the time ("Between Seventeen And Twenty," "If There's A God In Heaven [What's He Waiting For?]"). Elsewhere, ...

Midnight Madness songs
$13.15 Atlanta’s Best KISSers is the Atlanta area’s tribute to the hottest band in the world, KISS!! Many of Atlanta’s finest musicians have lent their talents and created a CD that is truly memorable. From the progressive rock feel of Detroit Rock City to the violins and flutes of Beth, Atlanta’s Best KISSers covers a lot of musical ground. Recorded at Richenroll Studios in Alpharetta, GA (a suburb just north of Atlanta) and produced by owner Rich Grillo, the goal was to both keep the arrangements close to the original song, but also allow the artists to express their own sense of uniqueness. Both objectives meld together and create a really cool listening experience throughout the entire CD. Artists include:1. No Longer Mica/Detroit Rock City – A progressive rock/metal band that combines great musicianship with creative arranging skills. Detroit Rock City really shines with extra guitar harmonies and the bass guitar starting the famed guitar solo. 2. Blizzard of Mullet/Strutter - Blizzard of Mullet is derived from two separate Atlanta’s rock acts; Blizzard of Ozzy and Iron Mullet. Blizzard of Ozzy is a popular Ozzy Osborne tribute band while Iron Mullet plays the greatest rock tunes of the 1980’s and 1990’s. This really fun version of Strutter features Leigh “Goddess of Thunder” Westee on bass. Leigh has played in many KISS Tribute bands, been featured on VH1’s super fan (for KISS), and regularly performs at the KISS Coffeehouse in South Carolina.3. Tuesday Jammers/All The Way – Tuesday Jammers is an assembly of musicians pulled from a Tuesday Jam night at a local Alpharetta bar. Guitarist Luis Roy actually modified the inner workings of his amplifier to hand craft the big, fat guitar tone that appears on the recording. Together with Art McNaughton’s rock solid drumming and dead on vocals by RATL’s Doug Hartley, this track is unstoppable.4. Citizen Jayne/Cold Gin – Citizen Jayne is a killer rock band that is tearing up the southeast with a high energy show that keeps everyone on the feet throughout the night. Their version of Cold Gin contains all of the class riffs of the original tunes and kicks butt all over the place.5. She Said No/Nothin’ to Lose – She Said No is a project band assembled just for the CD and stars David James on vocals and Charlie Korch on drums, both from the AC/DC tribute band ...
