Like the earlier collections SKYNYRD'S FIRST AND LAST (1978) and SKYNYRD'S FIRST (1998), the '87 compilation LEGEND followed the same format, featuring demos and rarities. But while SKYNYRD'S FIRST concentrated solely on early material, LEGEND contains tracks from throughout the band's first tenure together (1973 through 1977). While newcomers to Skynyrd should stick with their officially released '70s albums, longtime fans searching for uncommon tracks will undoubtedly enjoy such selections as the Steve Gaines penned and sung "One in the Sun," as well as "Mr. Banker" and "Four Walls of Railford."
LEGEND contains previously released B-sides never before on LP, tracks intended for the "Street Survivors" LP which were incomplete at the time of the accident that ended Lynyrd Skynryrd, (recently completed by Gary Rossington, Leon Wilkeson and Billy Powell) and tracks recorded live in Atlanta. All remaining tunes contain recently added over-dubs.

Legend album
$8.25 SECOND HELPING is also available with PRONOUNCED LEH'NERD SKIN'ERD on one cassette.
It was hard to believe that Lynyrd Skynyrd could possibly top its classic, near-perfect 1973 debut, PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. However, the boys from Florida accomplished the near-impossible with their sophomore release one year later, SECOND HELPING. It's hard to determine the better album of the two, but both proved to be a solid one-two punch that made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the '70s' biggest (and unfortunately, most tragic) rock bands.
SECOND HELPING also helped define ...

Sadly, STREET SURVIVORS would prove to be the final Lynryd Skynyrd album of the Ronnie Van Zant-era. Only three days after this, the band's fifth studio album (sixth overall) was released in 1977, the band boarded the tragic plane flight that killed singer Ronnie Van Zant and new members guitarist Steve Gaines and background vocalist Cassie Gaines.
The fact that STREET SURVIVORS was one of Skynyrd's best albums only intensified the tragedy--it ...

| | Baby Dayliner High Heart & Low Estate CD (2004)
Legend songs
$12.55 Ethan Marunas is Baby Dayliner, a virtual one-man band from Brooklyn along the lines of groups like Laptop. But the musician's greatest strengths lie in him melding the simple synth pop of New Order circa Temptation with the highbrow pop aesthetics of singers like Rufus Wainwright or Morrissey. This is perfected on the opening "Raid!," which sounds contemporary yet dated at the same time. Pulp and Franz Ferdinand are also brought to mind on the track as it ambles along with a danceable, infectious rhythm. "Hoodlums in the Hit Parade" is a softer, melodic tune that throws pointed barbs at the music industry in a style mindful of Talking Heads. "Party Scenes" is another nugget that directly complements Bowie's "TVC 15," even down to the Thin White Duke's timbre on some lines. The breezy and lounge-like "Madeline" is a softer curveball given tone thus far, complete with steel drums as percussion. Unfortunately, the first tune that comes up a bit short is the Depeche Mode-like "Beat Downs," which starts off well but doesn't sound entirely ripe. Baby Dayliner uses lullaby melodies to get his messages across, and this works brilliantly on the string-laced title tune, sounding like it belongs on David Byrne's Grown Backwards album. "I am well dressed but an emotional slob," he sings as the tune rolls along nicely. "Can't Believe" is perhaps the watershed moment, starting off with a somber tone despite its uplifting beat. "Dead Ladies" marks the first hint of a filler tune, which seems too light for its own good. Thankfully he atones for it with a catchy yet quirky "I'll Be Your Counterpart." The kitsch rap of "Shah With That" is a bit like Eminem mocking himself. ~ Jason MacNeil

THE CONCEPT:Brooklyn's Baby Dayliner is upbeat, joyous, earnest, and romantic, all at once. He combines Leonard Cohen's songcraft, the electronic pulse of New Order, and the jiggy performance style of Al Green. He's also been compared to Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, James Brown, Tom Jones, The Smiths, Daft Punk, and Stephin Merritt's Magnetic Fields -- influences which he gratefully cites alongside the classical and jazz of his formal musical training, and the street sounds he absorbed while growing up in New York City. Imagine wooshing and plinging synths, trip-the-light fantastic pianos, catchy beats, highly literate lyrics, and the low tones of one man's melodic voice. We're ...
