Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band: Jimmy Buffett (guitar, vocals); Melanie Prestidge, Claudia Cummings, Tina Gullickson, Nadirah Shakoor (vocals); Peter Mayer (guitar, ukulele, vocals); Mac McAnally (guitar, vocals); Greg "Fingers" Taylor (harmonica); Amy Lee, Tom Mitchell (saxophone); John Lovell (trumpet); Michael Utley (keyboards); Jim Mayer (acoustic bass, bass); Roger Guth (drums); Robert Greenidge (steel drums, percussion); Ralph MacDonald (percussion).
Jimmy Buffett is home for the holidays, occupying his usual laid-back, Caribbean-influenced, folky territory, this time with a Christmas twist. Parrotheads and regular folks alike will enjoy these mellow, witty versions of old favorites (Buffett's "Jingle Bells" includes the line, "A day or two ago/I thought I'd make a run/To Port Antonio/I be cruisin' in the sun") as well as Buffett originals such as "A Sailor's Christmas" and "Ho Ho Ho And A Bottle Of Rhum."
Most of CHRISTMAS ISLAND is lighthearted fun, but the final track, "Merry Christmas, Alabama," provides a touch of nostalgia. Buffett was born on Christmas day 1946, and the song includes thanks to "my saints and guardian angels/Who protect me as I roam."
Largely comprised of original material, Jimmy Buffet's Christmas Island is a holiday album that also features rearrangements of classic carols. Buffet is relaxed and entertaining throughout. ~ Thom Owens
Largely comprised of original material, Jimmy Buffet's Christmas Island is a holiday album that only parrot heads will need bother with. Though Buffet is relaxed and entertaining, few of his new Christmas songs are remarkable and his rearrangements of classic carols are rather forced. Still, Christmas Island remains a pleasant diversion for his dedicated fans, even if it isn't a particularly memorable one. ~ Thom Owens

Christmas Island music CDs
$15.05 IT'S LIKE THIS was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Though Rickie Lee Jones began her career as a highly idiosyncratic singer-songwriter, this album finds her taking on a slightly different role that began in earnest with her POP POP album; that of the interpreter. IT'S LIKE THIS consists entirely of cover tunes, all delivered in that unmistakably unique Jones style. She takes ...

$7.49 All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original master tapes.
Georgia's Dixie Dregs were one of the most popular fusion bands of the mid-'70s. By the time of this 1977 debut, fusion had become a distinct genre apart from the jazz-rock that preceded it. On the surface, it may seem like hairsplitting, but fusion differs ...
| | Peter Gabriel Deutsches Album CD (1982) (Import)
Christmas Island album
$30.79 SECURITY was released in some editions as the fourth Peter Gabriel album entitled simply PETER GABRIEL.
This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
SECURITY picks up on the structural advances made on Gabriel's previous album (the third of his untitled solo recordings), by combining his creepy, quirky, post-art rock leanings with Third World-rhythmic patterns. A successful fusion of the modern (synths, heavily-processed guitars) and the ancient (tribal rhythms, lyrical themes that reach into the ancestral memories of various cultures), SECURITY was both Gabriel's most sophisticated and most accessible work to date. Infectious, ...

| | Anthony Pateras Flux Compendium CD (2006) (Import) Austria
Christmas Island music CDs
$15.89 Released three years after Anthony Pateras and Robin Fox's collaborative debut, Flux Compendium unveils a seasoned duo, more tempered and detail-oriented than before. Coagulate was a one-two punch: well composed and entertaining, but raw and in your face. For this second outing, the two electronicians toned down the harsh noise in favor of a more discreet -- and intriguing -- sound palette. It seems these two can build impromptu compositions out of any type of sound: breath, belches, coins, laughs, doors, and yes, even pure electronic tones. The album was clearly sequenced with entertainment value in mind, and it works. First off are five short pieces (two and a half to four minutes) showcasing the duo's punkish attitude and creative conciseness, in a field where the nonstop 70-minute set is the norm. Then comes "Perilymph," 13 minutes of finely chiseled tones choreographed into a strong -- if ...
