The Dramatics include: Ron Banks (vocals). Personnel: Jimmy Johnson , Robert White , Jesse Carr, Marvin Austin, Rodney Anderson, Marvin Marshall, Randall Grant (guitar); Earl Van Dyke, William Wooten, Rudy Robinson, George Roundtree, Melvin Griffin, Barry Beckett (piano, electric piano, keyboards); Robert Pangborn (vibraphone); Paul Clark , Eddie Watkins, Roderick Chandler, Michael Henderson (bass guitar); Darrell Jenning, Al Tompson, Zachary Frazier, Roger Hawkins, Uriel Jones (drums); George Pedak, Donald Lewis, Zachery Shannon (congas); Jack Ashford (percussion). A satisfying Dramatics collection that includes their revised, campy version of "Me and Mrs. Jones," which had remained a staple of their live shows. Astrology was riding high in the mid-'70s, and "(I'm Going By) The Stars in Your Eyes" provided fodder for astrological discussions as the guys poo-poohed the differences in personality traits associated with the signs. A good balance of fast and slow tunes helps make this album a winner. "Good Things Don't Come Easy" and "Never Let You Go" are two frantic dancers that chug along faster than a speeding locomotive, while "Trying to Get Over Losing You" succeeds in treating losing your lover in a positive, uplifting way. The guys must have been loaded with material to keep this one off a 45. Likewise for the aching, painful "I Cried All the Way Home," one of Tony Hester's best compositions, and easily the best ballad on the album. The Dramatic Jackpot has been reissued on CD and at a good price. ~ Andrew Hamilton Dramatic Jackpot Music | List Price | $6.98 (You save $1.59) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, R&B CDs, Rap, Oldies, Urban Soundtrack, Soul/R&B, Stax/Southern Soul | | Label | Universal Special Products | | Orig Year | 1975 | | All Time Sales Rank | 62714 | | CD Universe Part number | 1105259 | | Catalog number | 20864 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 09, 1995 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | L.J. MASTERPIECE OF AMERICAN SOUL MUSIC!! I HAVE A VINIL RECORD OF THIS "THE DRAMATICS JACKPOT" SINCE 1977 (THE RECORD WAS ISSUED IN 1975) AND SINCE THEN I HEARD IT. AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY: I NEVER GET TIRED OF HEARING THIS MAGNIFICENT WORK! ALL THE TRACKS ARE GOOD, BUT VERY SPECIALLY THE EXOTIC VERSION FOR "ME AND MRS. JONES" (YES, THAT ONE FROM BILLY PAUL!) AND "ME MYSELF AND I" (THIS, A CLASSIC SOUL MUSIC THAT HAD EVERYTHING TO BECOME A HIT!)IF YOU APPRECIATE GOOD SOUL MUSIC FROM SEVENTIES, YOU SURELLY WILL LOVE THIS CD FOR LIFE!
