| | Story Of My Life: The Marty Robbins/Ray Conniff Recordings CD (1994) (Import) Germany
Pickin' Time music CDs
$21.15 Contains Columbia label recordings from 1957-58 and a 16-page booklet.
Marty Robbins' brief flirtation with the teen idol crowd during the late '50s may not be his best period in the eyes of most fans, but it did result in some of the brightest, most effervescent vocal pop of the era. Robbins, with the help of arranger Ray Conniff, crossed over to the teen-entranced pop charts and still kept his soul -- unlike Elvis Presley -- with hits like "A White Sport Coat (And a Pink Carnation)," "Just Married," "The Story of My Life," and "She Was Only Seventeen (He Was One Year More)." This Bear Family compilation includes 16 of these gems, none better than the hits mentioned above, but many still a revelation for those who enjoyed the period. Also included is "The Hanging Tree," the one Robbins-Conniff collaboration that looked ...

| | Martyn Joseph Deep Blue CD (2005) Import
Pickin' Time songs
$14.29 Martyn Joseph has fairly successfully, at this point, capitalized on the idea of the emotionally open and forward singer/songwriter. And so it should be unsurprising that on his latest effort, Deep Blue, he employs the same techniques that have won him so many fans in the U.K. (he was the Welsh Music Awards' Best Male Solo Artist in 2004). The songs on Deep Blue are profoundly introspective and intimate, with topics varying from love to antiwar sentiments to thanking Paul Robeson for his dedication to the Welsh miners' plight, and Joseph's voice is as rich and expressive as ever; half the time he sounds on the verge of tears. This, along with the over-production, can be a bit of overkill at times, as if Joseph is trying to force his listeners to feel the emotion in his words using any means necessary, so the songs in which he sticks to a simpler (though still very clean), folkier approach are less aggressively touching and seem a little more natural. The pacifist's anthem "Yet Still This Will Not Be" is poignant and hopeful, while the cover of Larry Norman's "Six Sixty Six" has Joseph taking a country blues approach ...

Pickin' Time music CDs
$15.19 Hi, I’m Josie I started playing the guitar late in life and started writing my own songs soon after. All my songs are copyrighted by IMRO Irish Music Rights AssociationMy album ‘Better Days’ relates to some of my life experiences.Track 1 – Mickey’s DreamThe song is about a friend of mine Mickey who started a team called Dynamo it starred a few of the local boys who played in a local soccer league.Track 2 – The Chip Van First fleadh I ever went to in Listowel in Co Kerry, Ireland…… The town was packed & restaurants were full. It was difficult to find somewhere to find something to eat and then we found a Massive Chip Van were we ate for 4 days!!Track 3 – Maggie Brown This song is about a couple from Ireland who met and married in England.Track 4 – Better Days This is the title trace of my album and was inspired by daily news items about old people getting beat up and robbed in their own homes usually by young people looking money for drugs etc. and about a general breakdown in society if it’s not stopped.Track 5 – Brown Eyes This little song is just about how I met my wife in a Funfair 35 years ago.Track 6 – Hilden Hilden is about a Mill Village where I was born it consisted of 3 rows of houses, A school built beside the River Lagan & a Linen Mill……..at one time it was the larges linen mill in Europe & the village was thriving and now its all gone even the little school has just closed in recent months.Track 7 – Monday Club Most towns in Ireland have a pub were people go to on a Monday instead of work and they discuss the same football matches, films etc…. every week, these are called Monday Clubs.Track 8 – Come back to Co Antrim Now and again I’ve had to live away from home and anytime I’ve been away I couldn’t wait to get back to home… Co Antrim.Track 9 – Francie’s Banjo Some friends and I play in a session with every Tuesday night, Francie McReynolds and I started the session we haven’t missed a Tuesday night in 14 years. Francie’s Banjo can be heard playing on the Monday Club Track.Track 10 – Sandy Row to Ballina This is my personal favourite track and one I never tire of playing. It is based on a true story of a friend of mine who played in protestant flute bands and later come upon a folk session in Ballina, Co Mayo while on a fishing trip and realised that he knew all the tunes and was able to join in. He later played nothing but traditional irish music and give up the flute bands and now lives in Holland. I hope you get as much fun and enjoyment out of listening to my album as I did out of making it……I would like to take this opportunity ...
