By capturing critical attention through some impressive compilation cuts before unveiling their full-length debut VEGAS, Crystal Method allowed themselves time to explore and develop a plethora of soundscapes, with elements ranging from spacey synthesizers and NASA samples to dense layered breakbeats. The opener "Trip Like I Do" firmly establishes the album's direction: oscillating synthesizers, hard edged drum-and-bass furor coupled with samples reminiscent of My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult. Those who still believe that American electronica cannot compare to the British electronic movement need only take a careful listen to the unrelenting-yet-tasteful sonic juxtapositions which VEGAS unleashes.

Entertainment Weekly (9/26/97, pp.78-79) - "..Their mixture of crescendoing break beats and inspiring Jesse Jackson samples places them in the vanguard of techno-rock..." - Rating: A- Vibe (9/97, p.247) - "...Entering this U.K.-dominated genre are the Crystal Method, a southern California-based duo whose pulsating debut is alive with frenetic beats, sensual melodies, and the style's trademark squiggly sound effects..." Melody Maker (10/25/97, p.53) - "...Technology may well be their forte and their medium, but The Crystal Method just want to rock your socks off....at the moment they don't quite make it but there's a lot of potential in there which, with a bit more bite, could be just the ticket." fantastic I have bought this cd about 12 times since 1997, I keep losing and scratching them since I take them everywhere, all this ended about 3 years ago when I have the whole thing on mp3. This is the best CD I have ever heard-in the genre. I have all the CD's since 1997, but I always come back to this one. It is rare but once in a while a perfect cd comes along--the last one besides this one was Enigma--Sadness. The tracks are flawless and the linear process in which they are organized is perfect.
Enjoy. Submitted by Noctumz (AZ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good investment, even those curious to the genre This CD is AMAZING. I purchased it 4 times since I FIRST picked it up back in 97'. Easily the best experience one can have with the genre. I read a review of a person saying they used the CD when doing homework, listening to it by themselves, with friends, in the car driving around, all experiences I can relate to with this music. Very energising to say the least. I mean many tracks from this album were featured in Ads for Gap, TV shows like First Watch, Video Games and various other forms of advertising. I'll leave my opinions on advertising out but all in all, almost everyone can find a track to relate to in this albulm. Submitted by the_pepsi_guy (Dawson Creek, BC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
