| | Is It...Man Or Astroman? CD Man Or Astroman Discography of CDs
Escapist treats abound from this mysterious, tongue-in-cheek collective from the Southern United States. Man or Astro-man? have an ear for yesterday's sounds of tomorrow, as they decorate their mostly instrumental tracks with obscure sound bytes from out-of-date sci-fi movies and forgotten TV shows. Silly, dangerous, occasionally sloppy, but never boring, their album Is It Man...or Astro-Man? is the answer for everyone running low on laser gun/go-go/surf/spy/cowboy/drag racing/'60s/bullfighter/Mars-invasion/motorbike music. Songs like "Taxidermist Surf," "Invasion of the Dragonmen," and "Journey to the Stars" (originally by the Ventures) gallop along with the energy of a dozen wild stallions headed for Neptune. "Nitrous Burn Out" is a fantastic bit of racetrack romp, liberally mixed with roaring pistons and accident bulletins along the way. With anything so aggressively "up" in nature, there are a couple moments that inevitably droop a bit in exhaustion, like the novelty filler of "Organ Smash" and the uncharacteristically long "Alien Visitors," that tiredly meanders through some of the very same clichEs that at other times serve the band best. This being said, how can you turn your back on musicians that insist on the sheer fun of it all, when bandmates have memorable names like Star Crunch, Dr. Delecto & His Invisible Vaportron, Coco, the Electronic Monkey Wizard, Birdstuff, and Grand Master Useless? It's been said that listeners must see this band in concert in order to get a better sense of their uniqueness. After all, it's just your typical laser gun/go-go/surf/spy/cowboy/drag racing/'60s/bullfighter/Mars-invasion/motorbike music, but in person they are known to be one of the more memorable bands to see, as the floor show packs a Devo-esque punch for anyone interested in space exploration. This would be the soundtrack if Quentin Tarantino directed the old Flash Gordon serials. Isn't that worth a listen? ~ Eye Yamitako Is It...Man Or Astroman? Music Is It...Man Or Astroman? Is It...Man Or Astroman? album
$12.95 As born-again surf rockers, Man Or Astro-Man? bring back the frothy, metallic tones of the eternal Telecaster guitar. They also throw in spoken-word sound clips, which act as the ambient accompaniment to their trebly surf-rock sound. The result, EXPERIMENT ZERO, is full of truly adventurous guitar-sample sculptures.
In the middle of this instrumental feast, the band covers the Talking Heads' "Television Man," shedding light on their appreciation for Martian flicks. Man Or Astro-Man?'s gleeful retro approach is ...

Is It...Man Or Astroman? music CDs
$22.99 Argent's back catalog remains in a parlous state 20 years on from the group's peak, with great swathes of the repertoire unavailable on CD, and even some of the band's best-known and loved recordings are still chained up in a vault somewhere. Thankfully, this two-fer rendering of their first two albums is an exception to that sorry rule, as the group's transformation from the logical successors to the Zombies into one of the finest prog bands of the early '70s is traced out across 19 songs, almost any of which would be a shoo-in for some future "best-of" Argent compilation. It is ...

Is It...Man Or Astroman? album
$11.19 Southern California indie rockers the Stranger's Six are one of those bands who seem poised for a certain level of teen stardom; on the other hand, Phantom Planet, the Click Five and Damone were picks to click as well, and none of those really worked out, did they? The Stranger's Six are doing little new or different with the alt rock mainstream circa 2007: while ...
