| | Von Zippers Bad Generation CD Von Zippers Discography of CDs
The Von Zippers' full-length debut, Bad Generation, is full of trashy punk-pop-influenced songs and silly, smirky humor ("Jeff Gillooly's Balls") that will make it the perfect party record for some and anathema to others. ~ Steve Huey

| | Reigning Sound Break Up Break Down CD (2001)
Bad Generation music CDs
$9.65 Former Oblivians and Compulsive Gamblers frontman Greg Cartwright cools his boiling garage leanings to a simmer on the Memphis musician's debut with the Reigning Sound. It's all about the material on Break Up Break Down, and there are only scattered references to the primal blues-rock of Cartwright's notable '90s projects. Heart-tugging vocals and songwriting are the central components that this country-folk collection revolves around. Highlights like the waltz-time lament "Goodbye" have just what it takes to grip the ...
| | Fountains Of Wayne Welcome Interstate Managers CD (2003)
Bad Generation songs
$11.69 Fountains Of Wayne was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Stacy's Mom" was nominated for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
Following a four-year hiatus that found Fountains of Wayne going from Atlantic Records to S-Curve Records, New Jersey's favorite power-pop outfit delivers WELCOME INTERSTATE MANAGERS, the band's third opus. FOW does an excellent job of capturing the suburban zeitgeist that dates back to the band's name (derived from a Garden State backyard fixtures emporium) and carrying on from 1999's ...

| | Reigning Sound Home For Orphans CD (2005)
Bad Generation CD music
$9.65 This short (28 minutes) album is primarily made up of outtakes from the sessions for Reigning Sound's 2004 scorcher Too Much Guitar, but if that disc was too much rock and not enough soul for you, then you're in luck. Home for Orphans is dominated by the sort of moody, low-key laments that are Greg Cartwright's real secret weapon when he isn't cranking his amp up to ten, along with a superb cover of Gene Clark's "Here Without You" that fits this set like a glove. While "If You Can't Give Me Everything," "Funny Thing," and "Medication" all appeared on Too Much Guitar, these versions turn down the volume and dig into the lonely heart and soul of these songs, and prove that there are few people who can write and sing modern-day soul with the same passion and skill as Cartwright. His band offers understated but solid support (especially Alex Greene on organ), and it's hard to imagine why songs as good as "Find Me Now" and "What Could I Do" didn't find a lasting place in their repertoire, given how good they sound in this context. Cartwright also gives his fans a bummed-out Christmas classic with "If Christmas Can't Bring You Home" (the A-side from an out of print holiday single), and a roaring live take of "Don't Send Me No Flowers, I Ain't Dead Yet" ...

Bad Generation songs
$15.19 General Jones first appeared on the San Francisco music scene in February of 2007. They have vigorous energy, timeless style that is impossible not to enjoy. Drummer Gary Jones has been playing with Shark since 2005 - back when this music was played under the group name "Eighteen Wheeler" in the bosom of the magnificent Rocky Mountains, Boulder, CO. His impeccable meter and humble style are the heartbeat of this group. Zach "Z-Money" Sharpe has been playing the Bass guitar since the beginning of time; he carries the infectious air of funk/blues/soul style bass that will have you unable to resist the dance floor. Scott Portner lays down the meanest blues ...
| | Ty Segall Lemons CD (2009)
Bad Generation album
$10.99 Former Epsilons singer and guitarist Ty Segall turns down the tempo a bit but doesn't dial back the intensity on his first solo album. LEMONS follows the same lo-fi garage punk model as Segall's old band, but with the singer handling all the instruments himself, the arrangements have a bit less density, as tunes like the soulful "Lovely One," the midtempo R&B workout "Die Tonite," and the pseudo-psychedelic "Like You" reveal him exploring the space ...
