Time to Say Goodbye Product Description
Time to Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman was released Apr 05, 2000 on the EMI Angel label. in London, England, and Alexander Digital Suite in Miami, Florida. Sarah Brightman is an example of the kind of artist that Duke Ellington would have described as "beyond category." Coming from a theatrical musical background, she combines the traditions of Broadway show-tunes (Andrew Lloyd-Webber's ex, she starred in his 'Phantom of the Opera,' among other things), opera, art song and pop to produce a fresh, unusual amalgam that is showcased to fine effect on TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. Brightman reaches into the Latin tradition here (she sings in Spanish on such tunes as 'Tu Quieres Volver,' offering a glimpse of yet another area of her talent Time to Say Goodbye . One of the brightest spots of the album is her duet with pop-classical crossover superstar Andrea Bocelli on the title song Time to Say Goodbye . Recorded at EMI Abbey Road Studio No.1, Angel Studio No.1 and Nemo Studios Personnel: Sarah Brightman (vocals); Peter Weihe (guitar); Michael Soltau (keyboards, programming). | BRIGHTMAN NOT UP TO "CLASSICAL" STANDARDS This show business personality should have her singing categorized under "Popular" music; she doen's belong in the classical category--she lacks the voice and training properly to perform the accepted norms for singers under classical heading. It is embarrassing, for example, to hear her attempt an aria from "La Wally" as she does here. By a reviewer (Los Angeles, CA) |
Che bella voce! Time to Say Goodbye Only opera snobs will give this album a bad review on the basis that Sarah is not "classical" enough. What this album presents is beautiful songs and arias sung by truly one the most beautiful voices ever in the entire world. I myself am a teenager training to go into opera but I recognize tremendous talent when I hear it, whether or not it is "classical", and Sarah is truly a phenomenal singer. If Sarah doesn't have the voice to sing "classically", then neither does Kathleen Battle and Dawn Upshaw, two of the most gifted soubrettes of our time. It doesn't mean if the voice is not Wagnerian in nature then it is not capable of handling opera. I would say Sarah's voice fits best in the soubrette category. True, she doesn't quite have the bigness of voice to sing La Wally, but similarly neither does Battle and Upshaw. Perhaps that is the only setback in this otherwise perfect album. There is no other voice like Sarah's, in "classical" or "pop" By a reviewer (Honolulu, HI)
The Gold Standard for Beautiful Music This CD is, thus far, the very best that Ms. Brightman has produced. It has gone Gold or Platinum in 21 countries with good reason. You will fall in love with the title track, a duet with Andrea Bocelli, and be enchanted by the beauty and splendor of the remaining cuts. Sarah IS perfection when she sings these wonderful classical crossover songs. You will play them over and over again. By captdennis (Charleston, SC)
What a beautiful voice! I will never tire of this CD. Sarah Brightman has such a beautiful voice and the songs she sings are so pleasant. The orchestra background really makes it one of the better CDs out there. By chuck_s_2001 (Woods Cross, UT, USA)
Great Atmospheric Piece I really enjoyed this album's atmosphere. I don't find opera overly enjoyable, yet this album with Brightman's great performance, trandscends the operatic lines that usually restrict most artists to die-hard fans. My favorite song is, without a doubt, "Tu Quieres Volver" I especially liked the zenith of the song, in which Brightman reaches the uppermost limits of human vocal ability. I was absolutely awestruck when I heard her sing that part of this song. Otherwise, this album is fairly balanced with a good opera/pop blend that I, along with many others, find enjoyable. If you like Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, and other similar artists enjoyable, you'll like this one too. By Dr Music (San Francisco)
