La Luna album Product Description
La Luna album by Sarah Brightman was released Aug 29, 2000 on the EMI Angel label. The word "angelic" almost seems an understatement when applied to the golden voice of Sarah Brightman. She makes Enya sound like Tom Waits, and LA LUNA is full of tunes that allow Brightman to freely weave her vocal magic. She moves convincingly through a number of styles here, the atmospheric soundscapes of the introductory "La Lune" giving way to the electronica-tinged "Winter in July," which in turn leads into a delicately updated arrangement of the British folk tune "Scarborough Fair," made popular in the '60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Thick washes of strings mate with electronic percussion on Brightman's version of the Procol Harum classic "A Whiter Shade of Pale." On "How Fair This Place," she shows off the impressive operatic chops that helped her to earn her diva stripes. Ultimately, whether she's sweetly subverting folk tunes, ably adapting classical material, or reigning like a pop princess over very contemporary arrangements, Brightman wields a voice that never fails to enchant. ...See Full Description

| Opera with a pop/techno twist This is great soft music to listen to at night, especially. It sets a mysterious, quiet and uplifting mood. Plus, Sarah has such an angel's voice! It's interesting that she can go from an almost whispering voice in some songs to a strong, DEEP opera voice in other songs. I love her version of "Here With Me." I also enjoy "Serenade"+"How Fair This Place," "This Love, "Figlio Perduto," "Scarborough Fair" - I like all of them, pretty much! I'm sure you'll find the twist of classical music with pop and techno unique, cool and creative, too. If I were you I'd grab this CD off the shelf and buy it now! Who knows - it might teach you to enjoy classical music! By a reviewer (Lively, Ont, Canada) |
| When the Moon is High Passion Never Dies! The CD "La Luna" was supported by a spectacular and successful road tour in 2000. It is not Sarah's "very best" but it is a solid example of her beautiful, ethereal style. From "A Whiter Shade of Pale" to the very dark "Gloomy Sunday" you will be kept captivated and entertained. Ms. Brightman is the greatest classical crossover star and even her "everyday good stuff" is better than her rival's "very best" By captdennis (Charleston, SC) |
| falls short of EDEN but is still an excellent selection of music and a wonderful listening experience! By a reviewer (austin tx) |
| LaLuna-another Sarah Brightman masterpiece Even though my all time favorite still remains -Time To Say Goodbye- Sarah gives us a wonderful blend of contemporary as well as operetic musical pieces to stir the heart and spirit...she just keeps giving us so much without becoming too predictable. | AN INCREDIBLE BEAUTIFUL ALBUM LA LUNA is a phenomenal album. All the songs are incredible beautiful. It’s the 3rd album (after TIMELESS and EDEN) in “Sarah’s own style”, which is classical/opera/pop – all with Sarah’s bright soprano voice. The first song LA LUNE, Sarah sings in French. It’s a prelude to WINTER IN JULY, which is a song with a good rhythm and atmosphere. Wonderful songs. SCARBOROUGH FAIR is an old traditional. Sarah sings it so fantastic. FIGLIO PERDUTO, is Beethoven’s symphony no.7, 2nd movement theme. Excellent! When I hear Sarah’s version of A WHITER SHADE OF PALE, I wonder why the radio stations always play the old original song – Sarah’s version is much more beautiful. HE DOESN’T SEE ME and THIS LOVE, beautiful songs. HERE WITH ME is written by Dido, who is also known for singing it herself – Sarah sings it great too. SERENADE/HOW FAIR THIS PLACE, here Sarah sings in Russian. HIJO DE LA LUNA, is a Spanish song. By segerlin (Kastrup (Copenhagen), Denmark) |
