Perhaps Ravi Shankar's finest World Pacific record, Three Ragas is not only a fantastic artistic statement, but also an excellent introduction to the medium of Indian music itself. Performed by Shankar and a very simple trio, the pieces on this record show the true heart of Indian music at its most intimate. The second side, "Raga Jog," will take your breath away. A showcase in Indian ensemble performing as well as in Shankar's own endurance and grace, this side truly shows why he has been called (by David Crosby, no less) the finest musician on the planet. This recording was put together at a time far earlier than Shankar's mass-audience breakthrough, and is an excellent record by a true master. ~ Matthew Greenwald

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting ...
| | Sawyer Brown Greatest Hits 1990-1995 CD (1995)
Three Ragas music CDs
$8.49 Sawyer Brown, one of the most popular groups on the country scene, have had a long well-deserved string of hits. Much of their popularity can be attributed to their blend of deep country roots with a strong pop sensibility. Leader Mark Miller has a dynamic stage presence and a Pentecostal background which adds a dramatic dimension to his performance. GREATEST HITS 1990-1995 is a substantial collection--all the songs really were big hits, there's no filler here. Their style is spunky, the lyrics playful, and the music irresistable.
Ballads like "All These Years" and "The Walk" are emotionally satisfying because of Miller's ability to deliver a lyric with believability. His resonant vocals can drive home a lyric about rough-housing with good ol' boys as credibly as a lyric about the fragility of marriage. "The Walk" effectively illustrates the power of traditional country music lyrics, and the genre's ability to tug at the ...

Three Ragas songs
$15.99 Despite their novelty name, Crispy Ambulance were an influential Factory band that carved out a niche in the Manchester scene of the early 1980s; FIN is an extended version of their THE PLATEAU PHASE album.
Drawing in large part from the Open Gates of Fire release, Fin, so named since the band had already called it a day, makes for an excellent adjunct to the band's studio work, showing that the quartet didn't merely enjoy ...

| | Petula Clark Live At The Paris Olympia CD (2004)
Three Ragas music CDs
$13.95 In a career dating back to the early 1940s, Petula Clark has succeeded in various aspects of show business in various countries, and many are reflected in this concert recording from Paris, made when she was 70 (but sounding at least 20-years-younger). Beginning as a child star on radio in the U.K., she branched out into television and films in the 1950s as a juvenile, then moved to France and became a French pop star in the late '50s and early '60s. In 1964, she remade herself with the help of songwriter/producer Tony Hatch, and scored a series of British and American hits over the next few years, starting with "Downtown," the period for which she is best-known in the U.S. By the late '60s, she had moved back into film with Finian's Rainbow and Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and she later established herself in the musical theater with appearances in such shows as Sunset Boulevard and Blood Brothers. She addresses ...

Three Ragas album
$18.99 On Valentine's Day, 2003, four of the Northwest's most acclaimed female musicians performed together for the first time -- almost by accident -- at a club in Portland, Oregon. The irony that four talented, single women were without dates on the most romantic day of the year was not lost on them, and after a few drinks and some post-show commiseration, it began to look like fate. They decided that perhaps four against the world would be more fun than single-handedly attempting the task, and they all felt strangely up to it. So after another round of backstage dirty martinis, a group was born.Lea Krueger, McKinley, Lara Michell, and Stephanie Schneiderman have all earned individual success over the years with their own, critically-acclaimed CD releases, but the alchemy they've created together as Dirty Martini has helped them build a large and loyal audience in the Northwest; an audience that has embraced the quartet's eclectic mix of intimate lyrics, complex harmonies, serious songwriting skills and musical abilities. All four members come from diverse backgrounds. Lea Krueger, a gem of the Northwest music scene, amazes audiences with her mastery of song, musical expertise and unmistakable voice - a unique blend of tenderness with intensity, playful and innocent, yet at times delivered with a fury and passion that (as one journalist wrote) "could easily dismantle your roof." Lea's most recent CD release is entitled 'Strange Hallelujah.'McKinley has released two solo albums, Big Top Shop Talk in 1997 on original Santana drummer Michael Shrieve's Gold Circle imprint, which led to touring with label mate David Crosby, and Goner last year, both of which were ecstatically reviewed both locally and nationally.Lara Michell, guitarist from Portland's Carmina Piranha, has also released two solo records, Tide Pool in 1997 and Somniloquy in 2001, an album The Oregonian described as "gorgeous dreamscape" chamber pop.And Stephanie Schneiderman, who beat out hundreds of other aspiring artists for a slot on the 1999 Lilith Fair tour, has released two solo albums, 'Unbelievably Unbroken' in 2001 and her latest release 'Touch Down.'But it was ...
