Problems with the Mushroom label delayed the release of Magazine, which eventually went platinum and peaked at number 17 on the album charts. Only the hard-rocking "Heartless" made it into the Top 40, and the album didn't really live up to Heart's last few efforts. 1976's Dreamboat Annie showed stronger songwriting, while Little Queen had a lot more bite to it. Magazine lacks in energy and, to a much greater extent, fluency. The songs sound careless and scrambled together, and while some of the blame can be placed on the label controversy, it's apparent that the Wilsons seem unconcerned, for the most part. "Here Song," "Just the Wine," and the predictable "Without You" all have weak seams in both the writing and the articulateness of the tracks as a whole. 1978's Dog & Butterfly shows more interest and rock & roll vitality than its predecessor, making Magazine an album even the band likes to forget about. ~ Mike DeGagne
A collection of early demos and outtakes released when the group changed record labels, Magazine accentuates Heart's folkie roots, but that's not what makes the album such an unengaging listen. Instead, the album is mediocre because most of the material is underdeveloped and directionless. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Magazine Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) HEART-MAGAZINE AS USUAL, A VERY GOOD PRODUCTION. HART IS QUALITY ALL THE WAY. Submitted by a reviewer (WEST PALM BEACH, FL.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Short, but very good! And I like "Just the Wine!" This beats BeBe Le Strange all to pieces! In fact while not as good as Dreamboat Annie, Dog & Butterfly or Little Queen only a distant fourth overall. This one would have been great to make into a digitally remastered expanded version. It's a mystery to me! Now here's my question? How on earth does Dreamboat Annie not rate a digitally remastered expanded version? In all honesty, the three disc package should have included Dreamboat Annie, Dog & Butterfly and Little Queen. These three are unequivocally their best three, modern stuff included. They are the three that fit best together also. Bebe Le Strange is just, well, strange! Nothing against Ann and Nancy, but the guitar player was the "soul" of Heart! That guy could almost play with Jimmy Page! Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Underrated second album! Who knows what would have happened if this album was released before "Little Queen" rather than after. It actually is fairly short and seems like an EP, but there are a lot of great songs on it. The only noticeable filler songs may be "Just The Wine" and "Here Song." Also, it is interesting to hear the amazing guitar work of Roger Fisher on songs such as "Magazine" and "Mother Earth Blues." It seems like he was content on improving his guitar techniques rather than venturing into the "pop-music" era, like Heart later did. This probably explains his departure from Heart in 1980. In any case, this album deserves a good listen. This album also includes an amazing rendition of "Without You." This was a great album which the critics panned because it was released out of sequence and by the outcome of a dispute between two record companies. Not as bad as the band says it is The unfinished album that was never supposed to be released actually has a number of good songs. Also interesting are some live tracks from their club days. Submitted by a reviewer (Milwaukee, WI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with DOG AND BUTTERFLY and BEBE LE STRANGE.
Heart's sophomore effort, 1977's LITTLE QUEEN, was another strong and classic release for the band, despite the fact that they were caught up in a nightmarish legal wrangle with their former record label (who issued the half-finished album MAGAZINE shortly after LITTLE QUEEN, against the band's wishes).
The raging and venomous "Barracuda" remains one of Heart's best rock tracks, while the gorgeous "Love Alive" is an engaging acoustic number. With LITTLE QUEEN, Heart solidified their standing as ...

THE GREAT DIVIDE was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Country Album and Best Recording Package. "Mendocino County Line" (w/ Lee Ann Womack) was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
Much like Willie Nelson's millennial all-star effort MILK COW BLUES, THE GREAT DIVIDE is an outing that features a wide assortment of famous folks duetting with Willie in the vein of Santana's comeback effort SUPERNATURAL. Spearheading DIVIDE is Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas, who not only wrote three songs and duets on one ("Maria [Shut Up And Kiss Me]") but recruited Matt Serletic (who's also twisted knobs for Thomas's band and Carlos Santana) to produce. The result is a contemporary pop album that lands far afield from Nelson's outlaw roots, aside from the wistful, Mexicali-flavored title track co-written by jazz guitarist/longtime friend Jackie King, and Willie's ...

Listeners shouldn't get too hung up about Jeff Buckley's bloodlines--although they're impossible to ignore. His father was Tim Buckley, one of the most poignant, enigmatic figures of the 1960s' folk scene; but young Jeff grew up with his mother and didn't even meet his father until one Easter when he was eight--two months before Tim Buckley's death. While the ecstatic, keening quality of Jeff Buckley's vocals recall the haunting timbre of his father's voice, there are also overtones of a young Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Delta blues legend Robert Johnson, Pakistani vocal master Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and something indefinable--the sound of an individual talent beginning to blossom.
On this splendid live EP, LIVE AT SIN-E, we hear ...
