My Sharona is a budget-priced, 10-track selection that features some of the Knack's biggest hits, including "My Sharona" and "I Want Ya," but it leaves off enough essential items (including "Good Girls Don't") to make this an unsatisfactory sampler, even as a budget-line collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

My Sharona album
$5.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
My Sharona CD music
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore ...

It's always a sign that a group is hot if they release a holiday album mere months after their debut. That's the case with *NSYNC. Their debut was released in America in late March, and in early December, Home for Christmas hit the shelves. Much of the album is devoted to newer material, with only a handful of songs qualifying as standards: "The Christmas Song," "The First Noel," and "O Holy Night." All of ...
| | Elvis Presley ELV1S: 30 # 1 Hits CD (2002) Remastered
My Sharona songs
$10.39 Includes liner notes Peter Guralnick and Ernst Mikael Jorgensen.
Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, 30 #1 HITS presents a career-spanning serving of the King's chart-toppers.
Dating back to "Heartbreak Hotel" (which was inspired by a suicide note printed in the Miami Herald), most of these cuts have become indelibly etched into the fabric of pop culture and each has a unique story behind it. "Love Me Tender" has its origins in the Civil War ballad "Aura Lee," "It's Now Or Never" found Elvis Americanizing the Neapolitan ballad "O Sole Mio," and "Wooden Heart" likewise was converted from a German children's song.
This Memphis native's choice of artists to cover was equally intriguing and includes Hollywood legend Al Jolson ("Are You Lonesome Tonight?"), New Orleans soul shouter Smiley Lewis ("One Night"), blues great Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog"), and country titan Hank Snow ("[Now And Then There's] A Fool Such As I"). Further testimony of Presley's long-lasting appeal is the inclusion of the JXL Radio Edit Remix ...

| | Creedence Clearwater Revival Chronicle, Vol. 1 CD (1976)
My Sharona CD music
$10.45 Digitally remastered by Gary Hobish (1994, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Digitally remastered by George Horn (Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Digitally remastered by George Horn (1995, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of their biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "Suzie Q" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to the fierce "Fortunate Son" and the swampy blues of "Run Through the Jungle," CHRONICLE features the ensemble's ...
| | Hank Williams, Jr Pressure Is On CDs (1981)
My Sharona music CDs
$5.99 THE PRESSURE IS ON is one of Hank Williams Jr.'s best '80s albums. The regretful anthem "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down" is almost a country version of Warren Zevon's "Detox Mansion."
On "The Coalition to Ban Coalitions," Williams does an excellent Daffy Duck imitation and comes to terms with our highly litigious society. "Some want to get rid of Fender guitars," he complains. There's also Williams Sr.'s "I Don't Care (If ...

| | Antarctica 81:03 CDs (1999)
My Sharona album
$13.69 Right from the opening bars and arrangements, the comparison point between Antarctica and New Order is perfectly clear -- it's the same mix of technology and post-punk rock, playing out in a new decade and a new audience. But the five-piece clearly isn't simply out to recreate any one group, which is what makes 81:03 a fine follow-up to the band's debut EP. Vocalists/guitarists Chris Donohue and Eric Richter don't try to sound like Bernard Sumner, for instance, instead introducing a softer, almost breezier tone to their singing. There's more overt singing for its own sake, though there's also a delicious melancholy often present, suggesting a wide range of '80s antecedents -- Scandinavian pop, indie jangle, and more -- all nicely fused into an overall ...

| | Automatic Man Visitors CD (1977)
My Sharona music CDs
$13.85 With its second and final album, Visitors, Automatic Man unveiled a new lineup. Lead singer/keyboardist Bayeté (real name: Todd Cochrane) and guitarist Pat Thrall were still on board, but bassist Doni Harvey and former Santana drummer Michael Shrieve were gone-and their replacements were bassist Jerome Rimson and drummer Glenn Symmonds. The Bay Area quartet was still interracial (half white, half black), but with the personnel changes came a more commercial approach. While Automatic Man's self-titled debut album of 1976 was an uncompromising, fairly abstract effort that had to be accepted on its own terms, Visitors finds the band making its progressive rock/space rock funkier and more accessible. Automatic Man definitely increased the funk/soul factor on this LP, and tunes like "Daughter of Neptune" and "Give It to Me" have an immediacy and a directness that the first album lacked. This isn't to say that Visitors is a better album; Automatic Man was the more ...
| | David Bowie Ziggy Stardust CD (1972) (Import) Japan
My Sharona songs
$28.89 Every track on ZIGGY STARDUST & THE SPIDERS FROM MARS sounds like it was pulled from the rock 'n' roll bible. The album created a mythology that reached beyond the Chuck Berry folklorisms of the everyday rocker to create a new type of rock star. With ZIGGY, Bowie created a viable alter-ego to descend onto the planet and wreak havoc on rock's fertile soil. In doing so, he created the most original rock creation since the music's inception 20 years before.
Musically, the album was as inspired as Ziggy's persona. Mick Ronson's snarling guitar evoked the triumphant power of the late '60s guitar heroes, but added a flash so dynamic fans knew why the ...
