| | Al Green Unchained Melody CD Al Green Discography of CDs
This collection has the same tracks and sequence as the CEMA disc called Unchained Melody. While the material here is first-rate, better and longer collections of Al Green are readily available, and in the case of this brilliant singer, more is always preferred. ~ Steve Leggett
Like its companion piece Here I Am, CEMA Special Markets' budget-line collection Unchained Melody does a very nice job picking out highlights from Al Green's classic Hi recordings. Of course, Green was arguably the most consistent soul vocalist of the '70s -- you could pick any of his songs at random and come up with a very entertaining collection. And that's essentially what has happened here. There is no rhyme or reason to why certain singles were chosen over others, or why these particular album tracks are featured, but it's inarguable that hearing "Pretty Woman," "Funny How Time Slips Away," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," "Take Me to the River," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," and "I Can't Get Next to You" on one disc is very pleasurable indeed. Sure, any version of the Greatest Hits albums is preferable to this, as are the original albums, but this still is a good choice for listeners on a tight budget. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Unchained Melody Review

| | Kenny Chesney I Will Stand CD (1997)
Unchained Melody CD music
$7.59 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
On this, his fourth release, contemporary country singer Kenny Chesney proves that he's got the kind of consistent musical vision and overall stick-to-itiveness that are necessary to make a permanent mark in Nashville. While Chesney surrounds himself with the same studio vets (Larry Byrom, Brent Mason, Matt Rollings, etc.) that accompany 90 percent of his contemporaries, I WILL STAND sets itself apart by virtue of its nod to tradition. While he's not exactly Robbie Fulks, Chesney is clearly influenced by greats like George Jones and Merle Haggard. Instead of going for the across-the-board appeal of big, soppy power ballads, Chesney favors more authentic-sounding country fare. Titles like "From Hillbilly Heaven to Honky Tonk Hell" give you an idea where Chesney's sensibilities lie.
Recorded at Woodland Studios, Soundstage Studio, Music Mill, Nashville, Tennessee; New River Studios, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Personnel: Larry Byrom, Biff Watson, Kenny Bell (acoustic guitar); Reggie Young , Steve Gibson, Brent Mason (electric guitar); Pete Wade (gut-string guitar); Sonny Garrish (dobro); Glen Duncan (mandolin, fiddle); William ...
| | Very Best Of John Michael Montgomery CD (2003)
Unchained Melody music CDs
$10.29 Recorded between 1992 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Robert K. Oermann.
Though he has always essentially been a new traditionalist country singer in the vein of Aaron Tippin and George Strait, John Michael Montgomery found his greatest success with smooth, romantic ballads that recall the work of Glenn Frey as much as that of Merle Haggard. THE VERY BEST OF JOHN MICHAEL MONTGOMERY lives up to its title by including most of the singer's finest and highest-charting singles in both styles, in the process collecting a body of work that virtually defines the "new country" phenomenon. Montgomery has the kind of soothing pipes and perfect phrasing that endear him even to ardent country-haters, and his material has the kind of straight-for-the-gut forthrightness that is sure to attract anyone tired of the irony-drenched hipper-than-thou-isms of contemporary pop. In addition to the hits, the package includes two newly recorded tracks, which easily measure up to the rest of the material here with their characteristic mix of rootsy instrumentation and wonderfully tear-jerking melodrama.
Bound for the airwaves, Montogomery's first-ever TV-marketed career-spanning compilation features all the hits, signature ballads, and two new, 2003 songs, 'Cool' & 'One Day Less'. Slipcase. WB Records.

| | DJ Skribble Essential Presents Skribble's House CD (2001)
Unchained Melody album
$15.69 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Skribble.
It's a sure bet the party never ends at DJ Skribble's house, though his third set for the Essential series runs into a rut of driving, nondescript dance music with few lows and, surprisingly, few highs to balance it out. After beginning with a club remix of the club crossover of the year ...

| | Marvin Gaye How Sweet It Is: The Love Songs CD (2006)
Unchained Melody music CDs
$8.79 Marvin Gaye was a subtle, graceful singer with an innate and intimate sense of phrasing, and few singers in his era could handle a love song the way he could. This set mixes some well-known hits like "Let's Get It On," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)," and "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" with more incidental fare, and while it is both pleasant and solid as a sequence, most listeners will undoubtedly prefer a package with more of the big hits included. ~ Steve Leggett
