5 stars PET SOUNDS HEARD BY PEOPLE
WHEN BRIAN STARTED TO WRITE HIS MASTERPIECE HE TURNED TO PAUL MCCARTNEY AND THE BEATLES FOR HIS INSPIRATION. WHEN THIS WAS FIRST HEARD BY THE SUITS AT CAPITAL, THEY JUST DID NOT GET IT. THE EXECUTIVES WANTED MORE SURF MUSIC AND TO STICK TO THE GAME PLAN. BRIAN FOLLOWED HIS DREAM AND PRODUCED THE ALBUM THAT CAME FROM DEEP INSIDE HIS MIND. THIS ALBUM IS ABOUT GROWING UP. IT IS ABOUT FINDING ONE SELF , GETTING MARRIED, ALL OF THE ROADS WHICH LEAD US TO BECOME ADULTS. THIS IS A TRUE TESTAMENT OF ALL OUR INSECURITIES AND QUESTIONS. THIS WORK OF ART BELONGS AHEAD OF REVOLVER AND JUST BEHIND THE ALBUM OF ALL TIME ,SGT PEPPER. THANKYOU BRIAN

5 stars A '60s Masterpiece, Artfully Remastered
Nearly a Brian Wilson solo project, Pet Sounds is a tone-perfect snapshot of teen life in mid-sixties California. But it's more...much more. While the songs are wonderfully crafted, it's the production, as rendered by Brian, that sets this one apart. Vocal arrangements so tight that a prayer could not slip through, unique horn charts, amazing bass lines, Pet Sounds was so unlike anything that came before that its audience was puzzled; it sank from the charts with a bullet. Influential among musicians, it took decades to be appreciated by a wider audience. Now, nearly everybody knows what Paul McCartney and others knew then: Pet Sounds is not just a great album, it is art, a pop masterpiece deservedly lionized 36 years later. Repeated listenings always bring fresh surprises; from nowhere, a banjo springs forth...over there, a bicycle horn blares...barking dogs, "plucked" piano strings, always in context, seemlessly woven into a majestic musical tapestry that refuses to sound dated. The idea of a "stereo" version of Pet Sounds is sacrilege (fiddling with the greatest album ever?). Having said that, it must be noted that the original cd release of Pet Sounds was a bit leaden and muddy. Newly remastered in stereo, the fidelity is breathtaking. Crisp and clear, with its gorgeous intricacy lade bare, it's not just worth another listen; it's a revelation.

2 stars With all respect but...
I understand why people like this album, it's a good one. What I don't get is why they even compared it with SPLHCB by the Beatles. Let's face it, The Fab 4 admired the Boys, but the Beatles created an album that musically surpassed all the 60's american and british efforts.

5 stars Now I'm a Believer
I had read the reviews that stated this is one of the best albums ever. Now I'm a believer. The harmonies are incredible, even if the riffs are simple. It is the best from this genre and certainly the forefather to many of the rock harmonies we hear today.

3 stars Beatles
The liner notes of this cd have a quote from the Beatles declaring that their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a direct response to the Beach Boy's Pet Sounds. They were greatly influenced by Brian Wilson and vice versa. And in my opinion the Beach Boys were never the same again without him.

Recorded between 1968 & 1971. Includes liner notes by Pete Townshend, John Atkins, and Chris Charlesworth. This remastered edition of WHO'S NEXT features seven bonus tracks. Though Pete Townshend was originally unhappy with WHO'S NEXT, it was quickly welcomed by critics and fans, becoming one of the most celebrated titles in their enduring catalog. His frustrations boiled down to the album being a compromised version of a larger work he'd envisioned, LIFEHOUSE, which proved too unwieldy to be realized. Expanded to a two-disc set with essays by both Townshend and John ...

Between 1967 and 2004, the SMILE sessions were pretty much the Dead Sea Scrolls of pop music. Well documented as head Beach Boy Brian Wilson's answer to the Beatles' masterpiece SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (which was itself largely an answer to the Beach Boys' PET SOUNDS), the tracks laid down in '67 for the projected SMILE album were the furthest afield anyone nominally operating under the pop/rock umbrella had ever ventured. Notoriously, intraband conflict (Mike Love, in particular, found the Wilson/Van ...
