(4 Customer Reviews)
CROONIN' is Murray's a tribute to the most celebrated vocalists of the 1950's. This release contains 18 cover versions of the songs made famous originally by singers such as Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day, Bing Crosby and Perry Como.
Murray drops any pretense of singing pure country and steps into a Patti Page/Peggy Lee guise instead. The whole set consists of her taking on chestnuts like "The Wayward Wind," "Secret Love," and "Cry Me a River." ~ Dan Cooper
Recorded at Sounds Interchange, Toronto, Canada.

Entertainment Weekly (12/17/93, p.69) - "...Murray--who grew up on these songs and learned to harmonize from them--approaches the mostly acoustic remakes with the right mix of reverence, rejuvenation, and modern sensuality...." Rating: B+ Stereo Review (3/94, p.103) - "...Besides love and respect, [Murray] brings to the project her well-known agility, vocal beauty and supreme breath control. A worthy tribute...." Croonin' Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) An Evening of Romance or Relaxation A collection of songs, performed by an incredible artist, suitable for an evening in front of a fireplace with a bottle of fine wine. Oh yes This is one of Anne Murray's best. The sound, both voice and music is great. Submitted by Larry (Ft Walton Bch, FL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A voice to be heard! The mellow voice of Anne Murray singing some of the great songs of North American music will be truly enjoyed by all good music lovers. This CD will transport you and bring you memories of the good times. It is a must! Submitted by conto (Puerto Rico) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The short version A very nice easy listening collection from Anne Murray but, regrettably, this Capitol compilation cuts two songs from the original release: Dean Martin's "Memories Are Made of This" and Perry Como's "Round and Round". The album presentation is exactly the same otherwise. The longer version was apparently sold on TV exclusively! Submitted by a reviewer (Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? $15.19 JewB & MilkyWhyte were neighbors for ten years in the Cooper House Projects of Brooklyn, but did not meet until Milkywhyte crashed JewB's 25th Annual Gator Seder, where gator meat is used instead of lamb shank and Gatorade instead of wine. JewB had just been ejected from rabbinical school when his aspirations for becoming the world's first hip-hop cantor were met with utter disdain by his congregation. MilkyWhyte, on the other hand, had just stabbed a girl at Catholic school, but evaded prosecution by stabbing the only key witness. Though excommunicated from the church, Milky had won his freedom. His years of training as a choir boy made him the ideal counterpart for JewB. Both men, struggling against the very systems that had rejected them, realized that the only way to express themselves was through hip-hopIt’s a different scene from the one that has pre-occupied JewB & MilkyWhyte since 2001, when their first album and subsequent video lit up YouTube and deepened their reputation as WTF geniuses. On Debut, the societal rejects turned rappers climbed down the proverbial dog-sex/baby-sex/terrorist-loving/whale-hating worm-hole only to emerge with one of Norway’s best-selling albums of 2001, a lean, genre-murdering tour de force of crunk beats paired with kindergarten hooks. JewB & MilkyWhyte came out swinging with an immediate follow-up album titled Castrati, a calculated departure from the more childlike anthems of Debut, and an obvious move to take ownership of the commercial market. And it seems to have worked. “Tarzan Rubberband”, the first single from their sophomore album (and complimentary ...
