The best I remember how much I loved his music. So much so that I had it on 8 track tapes. I'm going to go pick up a couple of his cd's tonight, sit back, relax and remember how talented he is. A fantastic and truely unique man, and band. I missed his last stop in Minneapolis. I won't miss it again. Please come back to the Twin Cites. Thanks. GREAT MUSIC FOR A RELAXING, COZY EVENING In this 30 year old album, now on CD, Leon Russell mixes blues, jazz and pop music in a fantastical blend fit for listeners of each genre. There's a little rockin' going on here, but most of the CD is a laid back blend of songs about love and loss. Unfortunately, up until now, I have not took the time to look it up on CD, so, therefore, have not heard it in quite a while. But listening to it again brings back all the discovery and joy of the first time you fell in love with it, or maybe just the first time you fell in love. Submitted by Karen C. Will O' The Wisp album
$8.85 Principally recorded at Olympic Sound, London, England from September to October 1969.
Leon Russell's 1970 self-titled debut appeared when he was 30 years old and a veteran of countless sessions--as player, arranger, producer, and writer.
Opening with the gorgeous and frequently covered ballad, "A Song for You," he then jumps into a stew of New Orleans, gospel, bluesy rock & roll. The songs were all written or co-written by Russell (with the exception of the CD's bonus track, Bob Dylan's "Master of War"). This mix of music, all held together by Russell's drawled and friendly vocals, would prove successful for his follow-up album (AND THE SHELTER PEOPLE), and for his role as bandleader for Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour. Deservedly, this album has remained of the most enduring in Leon ...

| | Leon Russell Hank Wilson's Back! CD (1973)
Will O' The Wisp songs
$8.85 Leon Russell knows something about country music. Born in Oklahoma, virtually all of the country and blues made their way through Tulsa along with Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys. And while Russell is known primarily as a rock & roll performer, that doesn't mean jack. The 14 songs here offer a glimpse of where Russell's heart really lies. All classic country and bluegrass tunes, Hank Wilson's Back features Russell and a few dozen ...

| | David Olney Wheel CD (2003)
Will O' The Wisp CD music
$13.15 David Olney is generally characterized as a folk singer/songwriter, but that description doesn't quite jibe with the gutbucket country-rock music he actually plays. The folk tag is probably applied because, as much as his arrangements rock, they are in the service of his highly poetic lyrics, which he sings in a craggy baritone. Then, too, his songs, though newly written, often sound like old traditional folk songs. Here, in particular, "Voices on the Water," co-written with Gwil Owen, easily could be mistaken for some old song that developed out of a spiritual. Olney sometimes writes a basic love song to an acoustic guitar accompaniment, such as "Now and Forever," but more often his lyrics are allusive and his band veers back and forth in shambling ...
| | Djivan Gasparyan Moon Shines At Night CD (1993)
Will O' The Wisp music CDs
$14.49 Moon Shines at Night is a rich but simple collection of Middle Eastern songs performed by Djivan Gasparyan on the duduk (a reed-like Egyptian clarinet) with two supporting musicians. The structure for most of these songs is similar in nature, with the duduk soloing over the accompanying "drone" or foundation. Frequent Eno collaborator and guitar pioneer Michael Brook takes production credit for this release, doing a sort of Peter Gabriel-style nod to world music. Brook does exactly the right thing by providing the right acoustical setting and not much else (reminiscent of the wonderful ECM producer Manfred Eicher). ...
