Liner Note Author: Donald H. Randell. Photographer: David E. An X-rated comedian who has used jazz and R&B accompaniment when delivering his raunchy rhymes, Rudy Ray Moore has been called the Godfather of Rap (a title that has also been used to describe sociopolitical soulster Gil Scott-Heron). Among non-Black audiences, Moore was never as well known as Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy or Redd Foxx, but he has commanded a loyal cult following in the Black community and has influenced hip-hoppers ranging from the 2 Live Crew to Ice-T to Big Daddy Kane (who hired him as a guest on his 1990 recording "Big Daddy Vs. Dolemite"), not to mention Blowfly. A perfect introduction to Moore's 1970s work, this 1997 CD boasts such outrageously funny cult classics as "Dolemite," "Signifying Monkey" and "Hurricane Annie." Moore doesn't hesitate to be sexually explicit, and many of his characters were pimps, players, hustlers and prostitutes. Admittedly, Moore isn't for everyone. But those who aren't offended by the profane and the sexually explicit shouldn't miss these classic recordings, which are both historically important and incredibly entertaining. ~ Alex Henderson Rudy Ray Moore Greatest Hits Songs Greatest Hits Music Review Purchase Greatest Hits CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Rudy Ray Moore Hully Gully Fever CD (2000)

Greatest Hits songs
$11.59 (MP3 Available for Download) Guster: Ryan Miller, Adam Gardner (vocals, guitar); Joe Pisapia (various instruments); Brian Rosenworcel (percussion). Don't waste your time listening for bongos here. GANGING UP ON THE SUN sees Guster moving far beyond the groovy college-radio reputation that made them such campus favorites. Admittedly, there are still a few bongos, but this disc continues the progression begun on KEEP IT TOGETHER into a realm of eclectic, countrified guitar-pop. "Satellite" opens with a strummed acoustic guitar, bubbling bass lines, and a snaking keyboard riff before Ryan Miller's moody melody enters. Before the song is done, there will be distorted guitars, harmonica, organ, and as rich a sound as Guster has achieved so far. "One Man Wrecking Machine" is a nostalgic lament anchored by a full drum kit, with chunky guitar lines and a perfect alt/indie chorus. This album presents a dizzying variety of new faces for the band, all connected by Guster's melodic pop instincts and quirky sensibility. Guster has quietly become a very good pop band. And something more. Over the past ten-plus years they've been slowly honing their craft, building their fan base and making records that are unprepossessing but more and more compelling. Ganging Up on the Sun just might be their best yet. It certainly is their richest sounding record: the guitars are perfectly layered; the vocals warm and inviting, with sun-kissed harmonies on nearly every track; the songs filled with bubbling keyboards, twanging banjos, and all kinds of sonic embellishment. The group, who produced much of the album themselves, have taken all kinds of care with the sound of the record. ...
