Save for the few hits that cropped up in the first half of the '80s, Steve Miller's prime covers the years 1974-'78. With blockbuster albums like Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams, Miller dominated the FM airwaves in the mid-'70s and became a fixture of that decade's mammoth outdoor festival circuit. While not quite on par with earlier hits like "Jet Airliner," "The Joker," and "Rock 'n Me," early-'80s singles like "Abracadabra," "Keeps Me Wondering Why," and "Heart Like a Wheel" managed to keep the "Space Cowboy" magic going. This 20-track hits collection includes all these sides plus other smashes like "Jungle Love," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Swingtown," and "Wild Mountain Honey." Supplanting the earlier Greatest Hits 1974-'78 release, this expanded and updated hits package qualifies as the essential first-disc choice for newcomers. And save for a few duds like the pop reggae "Give It Up" and 1993's "Wide River" and "Cry, Cry, Cry," the album is solid from start to finish. ~ Stephen Cook Greatest Hits 1974-1978 collects the majority of Steve Miller's biggest hits -- "The Joker," "Take the Money and Run," "Rock 'n Me," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Jet Airliner," "Jungle Love," "Swingtown" -- and seven album tracks that received a fair amount of airplay on album rock radio. The collection only covers a total of three albums -- The Joker, Fly Like an Eagle, Book of Dreams -- with the latter two providing the bulk of the material. Because of this, "Living in the USA," one of Miller's biggest hits of the late '60s/early '70s, isn't included, but it isn't missed, since all of his other hits of the '70s are included. The thoroughness of Greatest Hits 1974-1978 makes it an excellent introduction to Miller, and for many casual fans, it also means that they can contain their Steve Miller collection to one disc. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Although Steve Miller had been rocking and rolling since the late 1960s, he experienced some of the greatest chart success of his career during the mid-1970s, as exemplified by this GREATEST HITS 1974-1978 compilation. Nearly all 14 of the album's tracks have become classic rock radio standards over the years. This period in particular saw Miller streamline his early blues rock sound into something more mainstream-friendly. With not a single weak track in the bunch, the creme de la creme would have to include the tasty rockers "Jungle Love," "Take the Money and Run," "Rock N' Me," "The Joker," "Fly Like An Eagle," and "Jet Airliner." $15.95 REO Speedwagon: Kevin Cronin (vocals, guitar, piano); Mike Murphy (vocals); Gary Richrath (guitar); Bruce Hall (bass guitar). Audio Mixer: Andy Manganello. Liner Note Author: Kevin Cronin. Recording information: 1971-1999. REO Speedwagon reached the Billboard charts 24 times. Not all of those were big hits, of course. Some of the early singles barely qualified for the Hot 100, while some of the latter-day hits made no waves outside of the Mainstream Rock charts, which means that they are relatively unheard by the pop audience that loved Hi Infidelity and "Can't Fight This Feeling." In other words, all the big hits could have been assembled on a single-disc collection, but Epic/Legacy's 2004 release The Essential REO Speedwagon ...

Greatest Hits 1974-1978
$18.99 What I said...I was born in Cincinnati, OH 1963, although I don't remember that...Moved to Naples, FL in 1973, by parents who were looking for sinus relief.Played in a few bands in and out of high school, most fondly remember after high school, Youth In Asia (say it fast, get it?), a band with a punky new/wavy kind of sound...that's when I got my first taste of how good it felt to front a band, even if it was in two-toned hair and leather pants! And I'll bet you didn't know that "band fronting" actually had a taste.Worked at record/music stores out of high school, then for a pool service company (I was the first female supervisor they ever had, I am woman, hear me snore)! I think that was when I first started wearing a sports bra, too...Met Stephanie Callahan in 1989 at a softball tournament (uh, oh, you know what that must mean...) and formed Halcyon. (out of Play-Doh at first, but it didn't stand up well to the FL heat).Moved to Tampa in 1990 to have access to a more metropolitan area for the music. (Yeah, it was just for the music).Worked steady and partied hard for a large, devoted following that continues to this day. The following, and the partying.Being in Halcyon has enabled me to travel the entire country many times over, including Alaska, and even did some extremely well received gigs in England. (It was nice to meet a real queen!) I've done festivals, cruises, TV, radio, office parties and even horse tracks! After 18 years, I seen and done an awful lot. Someday, I hope to tell Oprah all about it.Hobbies and things I like: cooking/good food/cool restaurants/wine/craft beer/do I smell ...
