Steve Miller has been known to take several years between albums to record follow-ups, but one of the few exceptions to this rule was his 1977 release BOOK OF DREAMS. With his previous album from a year earlier, FLY LIKE AN EAGLE, still hovering around the charts, Miller released another set of songs recorded during the same sessions that produced EAGLE.
It proved to be the right move, as BOOK OF DREAMS was a Top Five smash, spawning such hit singles as the melodic "Jet Airliner," the jovial "Jungle Love," as well as "Swingtown." With two albums released so close to each other, Miller took an extended break afterwards, not releasing another until CIRCLE OF LOVE nearly 4 years later.
Recorded at C.B.S., San Francisco, California.
Personnel: Steve Miller; Les Dudek, Curley Cooke (guitar); Norton Buffalo (harmonica); Jachym Young (piano); Charles Calimise, Bob Globb (bass); Kenny Johnson (drums); David Denny, Greg Douglass, Byron Allred, Lonnie Turner, Gary Mallaber.
Book Of Dreams Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Great Classic! This is a great Steve Miller Band early music. Simple and classic. Contains some popular songs that you still hear today and others that you dont hear much but are equally great.

Flying High On The Wings of Pegasus The successor to "Fly Like An Eagle" was every bit as great as "Eagle"; not surprising, as both records were cut at the same time. The three singles..."Jet Airliner", "Jungle Love" and "Swingtown"... were as potent as the ones from "Eagle" and the instrumental textures on pieces such as "Winter Time", "The Stake" and "Sacrifice" were outstanding. "Book of Dreams", along with "Eagle", provide a potent "one-two" punch that sadly was lacking from Miller's '80s output. "Dreams",
which closed Miller's '70s peak, is a must-have. Submitted by Will-T (Lawrenceburg IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another piece of gold for SMB The space cowboy built his own recording studio in 1973 (Just to have his own space) and proceeded to write all of the mega hits that put him on a Jet airliner to stardom. Other hits written then were Rockn' me, Fly like an Eagle and Take the Money and run. By 1978 he took the money and ran and took time off again before his next album came out 4years later. Steve is still touring to this day and even Paul McCartney is singing one of his songs. (The Joker) Book of Dreams is a great album and was the soundtrack for my Jr. High and High School days. It's well worth revisiting nearly thirty years later. A Classic!! Submitted by A babe in the wood (Swingtown USA (The Mad City)) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Arguably the last great Crosby Stills and Nash album, CSN was recorded before drugs and interpersonal squabbles wreaked irreparable damage to the group. This creative swan song is probably the trio's darkest, most introspective record, full of soul-searching ballads that detail the questions these men were asking themselves and each other about their lives at the time.

Book Of Dreams music CDs
$7.85 This is a limited edition "Album Replica" CD of FLY LIKE AN EAGLE specially packaged to simulate the original LP design.
Digitally remastered by Bob Norberg (Capitol Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Miller forsook his love of the blues for this and its sister project Book Of Dreams. In turning to mainstream pop/rock he became a huge star and developed the knack of delivering high-quality three-minute songs that were perfect for FM radio.
The album is linked by Miller's fascination with electronic sounds, sandwiched between the irresistible title track, the Bonnie and Clyde tale of 'Take The Money And Run', the irritatingly simple 'Rock 'n' Me' and the subdued 'The Window', with its quirky lyric 'ask my baby what she wants to be, she says a monkey in a tree'. His baby replies 'there's nothing greater than love', true enough. After all, it was Miller who rhymed 'northern California' with 'girls are warm yeah'.

Book Of Dreams songs
$10.39 More rock than Little Feat, but with a similar Southern boogie feel and absolute top-notch musicianship. [sentence fragment okay with Muze?] Al Kooper produced this record, which explains the sensitive use of strings and piano. Although tracks such as "I Ain't The One," "Simple Man," and "Tuesday's Gone" are outstanding, the one to wait for is "Free Bird," a song that rivals "Stairway To Heaven" for hard rock credibility. The nine-minute epic starts with organ and slide and builds in a similar way, but at 4:44 it changes into fifth gear and the air guitars are out in force.

| | Steve Miller Joker CD (1973)
Book Of Dreams album
$8.85 Digitally remastered by JVC using XRCD (extended resolution compact disc).
Although Steve Miller had been slugging it out since the late 60's as a blues-rock guitarist, it wasn't until his 1973 release, THE JOKER, that he finally found his most marketable niche in radio friendly rock. Here Miller abandoned his edge and his rootsy sensibilities, and leaned toward a lighter, more melodic approach. This is typified in the title track, a shuffling groover with an infectiously hooky chorus that went on to become a monstrous smash, and something of a signature song for Miller.
While "The Joker" is the centerpiece of the album the be-bop ditty "Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma," the humorous "Your Cash Ain't Nothin' But Trash," and the underrated Miller composition "Sugar Babe" are also noteworthy. THE JOKER is most interesting as a look at Miller in transition: it contains many of the elements ...
