BAND ON THE RUN is generally considered Paul McCartney's strongest solo effort. The album was also his most commercially successful--selling well and spawning two hit singles, the multi-part pop suite of the title track, and the roaring rocker "Jet." On these cuts, and elsewhere, McCartney's penchant for sophisticated, nuanced arrangements and irrepressibly catchy melodic hooks is up to the caliber he displayed in the Beatles, far surpassing the first two Wings releases WILDLIFE and RED ROSE SPEEDWAY.
The focus found in BAND ON THE RUN may have to do with the circumstances of its creation: Two former members quit the band prior to recording, leaving McCartney, wife Linda, and guitarist Denny Laine to complete the album alone (with Paul writing, producing, and playing most of the instruments himself). The album has the majestic, orchestral sweep of McCartney's ABBEY ROAD-era ambition, with a wide range of style-dabbling, from the swaying, acoustic jazz-pop of "Bluebird" to the appealing, straightforward rock of "Helen Wheels" to the wiry blues of "Let Me Roll It" to the swaying, one-off pub singalong "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)"). Though it lacks the emotional resonance of contemporaneous releases by John Lennon and George Harrison, McCartney's infallible instinct for pop craft overflows on this excellent release.
Paul McCartney & Wings: Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass instrument, drums); Denny Laine (guitar, percussion, background vocals); Linda McCartney (keyboards, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Howie Casey (saxophone).Q (6/00, p.64) - Ranked #75 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "...A joyous, moving, occasionally daft album, a transatlantic chart-topper which sold over 6 million..." CMJ (3/20/00, p.28) - "...Even Lennon once called it 'a great album'. Its multi-faceted big-band rock has withstood the test of time, posturing firm like an iceberg of creative brilliance..." Mojo (Publisher) (7/01, p.64) - "...Acclaimed as Wings' finest...and the title track is unquestionably fine..." Paul was the inevitable showman of the group. Here, Paul showed us how he used his musical talents to simply wow the listener. And boy, does he wow. He abandons all pretensions; he abandons any attempt at a concept album; he just makes songs because he likes to make them. We had glimpses of this on "Ram" and "McCartney", and on "Wings Wild Life" and "Red Rose Speedway", but here was where Macca simply played for us, the audience. No wonder it's one of his most popular albums; it directly appeals to the artistic ear of every one of us, but not pretentiously. Truly, Paul McCartney succeeded with "Band on the Run" with creating an album truly for everyone, literally. Even you can enjoy it. Submitted by Galen (Anchorage, AK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Wonderful Feel Good This album is filled with really really good songs...and it has some cheesy tunes. I like the cheesy tunes. Listen to this album. It makes you feel all fuzzy inside. ITs amazing how only 3 musicians got together to make this record. Submitted by jg-broman (Macomb, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Band On The Run album
$10.45 Generally regarded as Elton John's masterpiece, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD is a double-album (on one CD) that includes several of his signature songs alongside a sprawling array of lesser-known (but by no means lesser) tunes. The hits included "Bennie And The Jets," a funky, falsetto stomper; the Rolling Stonesy rocker "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"; and the gorgeous title ballad. "Candle In The Wind," an elegy for Marilyn Monroe, which didn't become a certified hit until 14 years later, when John re-recorded it with the Melbourne Symphony. The fact ...

$7.49 All songs written by Paul McCartney except "Medicine Jar" (Jimmy McCulloch/Colin Allen) and "Crossroads Theme" (Tony Hatch).
Includes 3 tracks that were not on the original release of VENUS & MARS.
VENUS & MARS is an interesting mix of musical styles, punctuated by Paul McCartney's unerring sense of melody and hooky songs. Along with founding members Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney & Denny Laine, recent additions Jimmy McCulloch (ex-Thunderclap Newman) Joe English rounded out the band on guitar and drums respectively. Guests for these sessions (partially recorded at New Orleans' famed Sea Saint Studios) included N'awlins pianist Allen ...

Band On The Run CD music
$12.15 The Linden MurderThe world of music is divided into various categories. All music is from the heart. Some, from the soul. One thing that everyone must acknowledge is music\'s ability to unite even the most unlikely of people. For all music is an expression. \"There is always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.\"Music now is divided into to separate worlds. The sounds of the mainstream, and the sounds of the underground. In the early 1980s, bands like D.O.A, Black flag and, Minor threat. Had no idea what they were getting themselves into, when they decided to get together, and form a genre of music known as Hardcore. Some bands we remember. Others we simply forget. Originality in the hardcore scene is hard to come by. There are many waves in which hardcore music has surfed. It is time to bring something new to the ears and eyes, of its disciples. The Linden Murder has come to that realization, that being unique isn\'t easy. They have developed a current style that they feel is the new sound of hardcore. With an eclectic sound of Led Zepplin guitar riffs and Meshuggah style breakdowns. Formed in 2003, The Linden Murder started with a solid line up, came out with a fresh sound, and good attitude. The band released a self titled 4 song demo. Shortly after the demo was released, the bands original singer Chris Johnson had left the band. In comes current singer Justin \"Ichi\" Ichikawa. With his intensity and dynamic dance moves, his performances are like a Sea world water show, front row may get wet. In 2004, the band went into the recording studio to re-record their old songs with their current singer. Later that year the band gets a call from Frank fidelity owner of High Fidelity Records. A. D, label mates and good friends of The Linden Murder had passed their record onto Frank. He liked what he had heard and immediately wanted The Linden Murder to be a part of the High Fidelity family. Then emerged the bands current record \"If you haven\'t dreamt of murder, you haven\'t been in love\". The following year, the band had a falling out. All original members had left the band. Determined to keep the band alive, singer Justin Ichikawa went on a search to find a newer, stronger, better Linden murder. Ironically a local band Stand Together, had lost their singer. Ichikawa, had spoken with the Stand together drummer, Jason Franker in regards to uniting the two bands. All it took was one practice to realize they were meant to be. Upon arrival of the new members the band was offered to be a part of a 2 week tour to the pacific north west. Joining the tour was Contra (Mediaskare records) This Moment (Uprising Records). When the tour was all done, the band got ...
