This generous 17-song collection provides a comprehensive overview of Robert Palmer's many fine songs, from his early work as an eclectic white soul singer working in a number of styles, to his reign as MTV icon and rock's most sophisticated dresser. The set begins with a remixed version of Palmer's signature song, the massive hit "Addicted to Love," and ends with the original album version.
In between are an impressive number of Palmer smashes, from his breakthrough hit, "Bad Case of Loving You," to "Simply Irresistible." The set includes the eerie gem "Johnny and Mary," the astringent dance grooves of "You Are in My System," and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On." Key offerings from Palmer's one-shot supergroup, Power Station, are also present: "Some Like it Hot" and the wildly successful take on T. Rex's "Get it On." Adding some variety to the string of smash hits are Palmer's cover versions of the songs of Bob Dylan (a reggae take on "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight"), the Staples Singers, and Marvin Gaye.
Personnel: Robert Palmer (vocals, guitar).

Absolutely deplorable distortion of Robert Palmer Every single song on this album has been terribly remixed and sounds absolutley nothing like the originals. This is a disgrace to Robert's memory. The company who released it, Guardian Records, was a small spin-off of EMI/Capitol, which apparently specialized in what is virtual fraud, since nowhere on the cd, or packaging, does it mention that all material was completely remixed. Guardian also released Todd Rundgren 'With a Twist' remixed to a bossa nova beat, to give you an idea of what you'll be getting if you purchase this one. I was lucky enough to have seen Robert Palmer live, twice, and this album in no way what-so-ever represents his music. Submitted by dhouse53 (Emerald City) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Very Best Of Palmer's Biggest Hits The Very Best Of Robert Palmer is a 17 song bargain budget compilation focussing exclusively on the singer's most successful radio hits. For what it's worth, the collection is the first to combine all of Palmer's notable hit singles (well, most anyway) on one set, har to do since he switched record companies at the the height of his commercial success. Casual fans will enjoy Top 20 US hits like "Bad Case Of Loving You", "Simply Irresistible", "Every Kinda People", or Palmer's trademark "Addicted To Love". The smooth R&B dance oriented mid 80's smash "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" is present also, alongside the Power Station hits "Some Like It Hot" and "Get It On (Bang A Gong)". There are a handful of singles included that were more succesful overseas ("She Makes My Day", "Know By Now") seemingly replacing better known hits to US audiences like "Early In The Morning" and "You're Amazing", both missing from this set. Palmer's acclaimed 6 minute long Marvin Gaye Medley "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You" might be the album's highlight. Sadly, by focussing only on commercial hits, hardly any of Palmer's more creative early career output is represented (no material from his first three solo albums appear anywhere). Likewise, very little the singer recorded after "Mercy Mercy Me" hit the charts is featured. However, if it's a collection of just the hits that you are seeking, this will do fine. $13.65 This album is the second to be recorded at Billy Oskay's fabulous Big Red Studio, just outside of Portland, Oregon. The sound is fat and full of life. Jim plays acoustic guitar and the sings the songs that he wrote. Billy plays violin/fiddle, and wears the producer’s hat. Mark Ettinger lays down the thunder with upright bass. Scott Law plays mandolin and guitar. The musicianship is superb. And because it was recorded on that big wide analog tape the sound goes way deep, so deep you can feel the windings on the strings. Billy has produced and recorded Dan Crarey, The Sugar Beets, Dave Carter and Tracey Grammer, and a host of others. The songs….. They come from different periods, but the through-line is a reflection on these war days. I’ll give you some glimpses using the titles. We will all have a head full by the time this is over. That song refers to those unshakable demons that get stuck in the minds of returning soldiers. Georgie Boy Bush - Petroleum Bonaparte - never worries about that, he's well taken care of, and I don’t think his head has much capacity anyway. Andres Raya – he couldn't control his demons and they got the best of him: he died in Ceres, California not too long ago. Rachel Corrie said she would rather be dancing than facing down armed occupation forces in Palestine, but until there was peace she would have to take chances. And she did. Clones - we all have them: clones in our bones, clones on the phones, clones of our owns! Say that again... Then there ...
