Capitol Collectors Series music CDs
$13.19 There was quite a buzz circulating around the Rollins Band after their show-stopping performances on the inaugural Lollapooza tour of '91 (they had the dubious task of warming up the crowd in the sweltering afternoon heat). After several independently issued albums, the Rollins Band issued their first domestic effort, THE END OF SILENCE, in 1992. The band benefited from opening tour slots with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys, as well as from alternative rock's crossover to the mainstream. THE END OF SILENCE is one of the Rollins Band's strongest releases. "Low Self Opinion" was an MTV favorite, while other tracks such as "Grip," "Tearing," "You Didn't Need," and "Obscene" caught the band at their most fiercely rocking.
In early 1991, months before recording their breakthrough album, END OF SILENCE, the Rollins Band set up in a small studio and charged through new material with a ferocious intensity. Every song was recorded in one take, and the vocals were done on the spot. After sitting untouched for over 10 years, those tapes were released in 2004 as END OF SILENCE DEMOS.
The songs hold up remarkably well--"Low Self Opinion" and "Tearing," both of which ...

Capitol Collectors Series album
$15.55 Recorded between 1970 & 1976. Includes liner notes by Barry Alfonso.
In the mid-'70s, David Gates and his group Bread were the rulers of the soft-rock roost, and deservedly so. As this concise compilation shows, Gates was masterful not only at mating infectious hooks with pithy sentiments, but at finding the emotional truth beneath all the dewy-eyed melodicism. From the visceral ache in the bridge ...

| | Matthew Shipp's New Orbit CD (2001)
Capitol Collectors Series album
$14.69 As one of the most daring and original pianists in jazz, Matt Shipp continues to cover a wide spectrum of musical concepts and methods as artistic director of the Blue Series for Thirsty Ear Recordings. From avant-garde atonal textures to classical music textures and reams of cosmic consciousness and free expressionism, Shipp has been positioned in a lineage between Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor. As the fourth release in Thirsty Ear Recording's Blue Series, New Orbit finds Matthew Shipp at peace with himself in his attempt to unite the many experiences he has had as an Afro-American composer and the "various strands of the modern ...
