After spending the 1970s as a hard-touring rock band with a few hits sprinkled here and there, the J. Geils Band retooled their sound for 1980's LOVE STINKS. The album resulted in the band's first ever back-to-back set of gold certified albums (1978's SANCTUARY reached the half million mark as well), which showed that in addition to their legion of longtime fans, newer fans were just discovering the band as well.
Synthesizers became an integral part of the J. Geils Band's sound around this time, making their albums from here on out much more radio friendly. The decade-old band wasn't afraid of the new promo video marketing tool, as several of the tracks were made into short films--the humorous rock of the title track (an early MTV favorite), as well as the almost disco sounds of "Come Back."
Recorded at Long View Farm, Massachusetts.
J. Geils Band: J. Geils (guitar); Seth Justman (vocals, keyboards); Stephen Bladd (vocals, drums); Peter Wolf (vocals); Magic Dick (harmonica, alto saxophone); Daniel Klein (bass).
CMJ (1/5/04, p.6) - Ranked #8 in CMJ's "Top 20 Most-Played Albums of 1980". J Geils Band Love Stinks Songs Purchase Love Stinks CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | J Geils Band Monkey Island CD (1977)

| | Blue Dog Pict Spindly Light Und Wax Rocketines CD (1996)
Love Stinks CD music
$10.15 In 1990, four individuals from diverse backgrounds, both musically and ethnically, discovered a sound. It is difficult for a listener to draw a true comparison, since the sound is born from such a host of musical influences.Over its six-year tenure, Blue Dog Pict came to be known as one of Toronto's most engaging, controversial and exciting acts, often illiciting reverence and repulsion alike from Toronto's hard-sell audiences. When they were featured on the internationally acclaimed "New Music Show" the segment began by saying that some called Blue Dog Pict a CULT, others still a CULTURE. One thing was for sure; this was a band worth paying attention to - they meant what they did, ensuring that every show was a real life experience, not just a reasonable facsimile. This band set a pitch for the Toronto music scene that can be looked back upon as one of its golden eras. This scene also included such prolific and seminal bands as Project 9, hHead, Yet Another Posse, Plains of Fascination, Grasshopper, Lowest of the Low, Dig Circus, Suckerpunch, Anhai, The Look People, The Rheostatics, Ron Sexsmith, The Dinner Is Ruined, nc17 (now treble charger), Fancypants Hoodlum (now Peaches), The Leather Uppers, Chicken Milk (now Venus cures All) and various others. Blue Dog Pict's founder, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, originally had plans for a solo album, but opted to develop an elaborate, experimental support group of musicians. This evolved into Blue Dog Pict. In January of 1992, the band released their debut album, "The Picture Album" which was recorded live off the floor (in two days) at the now defunct Eastern Sound. The album received high praise from college radio stations throughout Canada and the U. S and still maintains strong popularity in those circuits. The band released its second album "Anxiety of Influence: a nodding into...?" in September of 1993. This recording took close to two years to complete and embodies the intricate nature of the band's production. At one point three Marshall amps were placed in a 1400 foot concrete basement and six microphones were set up along its length to create the massive guitar sound affectionately dubbed "DOOM". (And this was before any shoot 'em up shareware games...)Constant Change Productions was founded in 1993 in tandem with the release of AOI so as to circumvent the compromising trajectory of the corporate music industry as a means for pushing music on the public. Although it was originally only intended to serve as an aspect of Blue Dog Pict's music, it quickly blossomed into a collective, philosophical, independently funded platform for a broad variety of artists and their projects of which ...
| | Six Parts Seven Lost Notes From Forgotten Songs CD (2003)
Love Stinks music CDs
$11.65 The Six Parts Seven, known for their spacy instrumentals, lay down favorites from their back catalog as a bed for nine vocalists on Lost Notes From Forgotten Songs, a "re-made, -defined, -assembled, -shaped, and -deemed album." The affinity for those making open-ended music, strung together with acoustic instruments and sparse atmospheric sound à la Eno, is apparent in the band's choice of collaborators. Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) begins with a straightforward folk number over "Sleeping Diagonally," Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse) adds his electronics ...
| | Mike Vax Next Stop: Live...On The Road CD (2005)
Love Stinks songs
$13.45 Mike Vax, who gained his initial recognition as lead trumpeter with the Stan Kenton Orchestra during part of the 1970s, has been heard in a wide variety of settings ever since but seems happiest when leading his own big band. Although inspired by Kenton and including a few of his later-period alumni, Vax's 15-horn, 19-piece ensemble does not sound like a duplicate of Kenton's. It is a mighty outfit with many lesser-known but talented soloists. The biggest names among the sidemen are pianist/arranger Bob Florence, trumpeter Carl Saunders (who is showcased on "My Foolish Heart"), and altoist Kim Richmond, but Saunders and Richmond only get one solo apiece since there are so many fine players in ...
