S.O.S. Band Best of the S.O.S. Band CD (1995) Top Seller
Greatest Hits of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Lifelines Vol 1 songs (saxophone, keyboards, vocals); Abdul Raoof (trumpet, flugelhorn,
percussion); Jason "T.C." Bryant (keyboards, vocals); John Alexander
Simpson (bass, vocals); James Earl Jones III (drums, vocals); Jerome "JT"
All songs written by James Harris III and Terry Lewis except "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" (Harold Clayton/Sigidi) and "What's Wrong With Our Love Affair?" (Jason Bryant).
Like all greatest-hits or best-of compilations, this one is missing some key ingredients, namely "S.O.S. (Dit Dit Dit Dat Dat Dat Dit Dit Dit)" and "Just the Way You Like It." Since the band didn't record tons of material and was only active a short time, the omissions are hard to fathom. It's not like they didn't have room on the CD; only ten songs are compiled here. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are well represented with eight songs. Despite the omissions, this is still good listening. Mary Davis' vocals are irresistible; she can do it all. On "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," she shows her funk side, matching the driving, disco-like beat with some powerful vocals. On "Tell Me if You Still Care," she sings in a softer voice, similar to a Smokey Robinson production for Mary Wells. She sings "Just Be Good to Me" with so much conviction that you believe she wrote it. ~ Andrew Hamilton
Import exclusive compilation for the hit 80s soul-pop act features ten tracks including their two-million selling debut single 'Take Your Time (Do It Right)'.

Bill Withers Lean on Me: The Best of Bill Withers CD (1994) Top Seller
Greatest Hits of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Lifelines Vol 1 buy CD music Eighteen tracks, from the early '70s to the mid-'80s, including his early Top Ten singles, but also minor hits like "Grandma's Hands," "Kissing My Love," and "Lovely Day." Those who admire songs like "Lean on Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine" are advised to approach this best-of with caution; from the mid-'70s onward, Bill Withers forsook his folky singer/songwriter soul for more anonymous, slick MOR soul and urban contemporary. His early sound was far more distinctive, and his early-'70s Sussex albums are recommended alternatives to this compilation. ~ Richie Unterberger

Moments Love on a Two-Way Street and Other Hits CD (1996) Top Seller
Greatest Hits of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Lifelines Vol 1 CD music Additional personnel includes: Sammy Lowe (conductor); Sylvia Robinson (spoken vocals); Tommy Keith (guitar).
Recorded between the late 1960s and 1982. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
The Moments charted regularly on the R&B charts and copped the number three position on the pop charts with "Love on a Two-Way Street." Best of the Moments: Love on a Two-Way Street [Rhino 1996] chronicles a group that underwent some changes before Billy Brown, Al Goodman, and Harry Ray meshed and made the Moments a popular R&B entity. Die-hard fans will notice two omissions: "Girl I'm Going to Miss You," a floater sung by Brown in an aching falsetto, and "Somebody Loves You Baby," the B-side of "Sunday." The inclusion of "I'm Willing" by Harry Ray (one of his solo releases), and an extended version of "Sexy Mama" soften the oversights. Incidentally, Billy Brown sings all the parts on "I Do" -- the lead, the background, and the spoken parts. Essential listening; don't hesitate to add this one to your shopping cart. ~ Andrew Hamilton
Willie & The Mighty Magnificents: Willie Feaster (guitar); Bert Keyes (piano); Val Burke (bass); Arnold Ramsey (drums).

Isley Brothers Love Songs CD (2001) Top Seller
Greatest Hits of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Lifelines Vol 1 buy CD music Originally released on T-Neck Records. Includes liner notes by Virginia Prescott.
Along the way to being a bridge throughout the history of R&B throughout the latter half of the 20th century, the Isley Brothers also directly helped shape facets of the genre along the way. Starting in the '70s, eldest Isley siblings Ronald, Rudolph, and the late O'Kelly carved out a soundtrack for silk-sheet relations along with fellow love lords Barry White and Marvin Gaye.
This collection hinges on Ronald Isley's creamy falsetto; it's easy to mistake him for Al Green, particularly against a background of swirling keyboards on "For the Love of You (Parts 1 & 2)" and the crying guitar of "Voyage to Atlantis." As usual, the Isleys include unlikely artistic interpretations (Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me," and Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze") that work superbly. The most memorable bedside listening comes from the thick-as-molasses beat, crooning vocals, and background grunting of "Between the Sheets," the quintessential jam that's influenced an army of contemporary R&B lotharios, including R. Kelly and Joe. LOVE SONGS proves the Isleys to be the masters at the art of the seductive song.
Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (2000 Sony).

Anthology CDs (1996)
Greatest Hits of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Lifelines Vol 1 songs Maze have been a fan favorite since the mid-'70s; while they've received little critical notice or adulation except among soul and R&B scribes, Maze have seldom been out of the charts since making their debut on Capitol. Lead singer Frankie Beverly's roots extend back to classic doo wop and East Coast soul; although he made the transition to funk, then urban material, Beverly always had plenty of soul and passion in his vocals. Maze also blazed their own musical trail; when such competitors as Earth, Wind & Fire, the Bar-Kays, Con Funk Shun, and Slave were featuring surging horn sections and jazz-tinged arrangements with heavy basslines, Beverly and company favored rock-influenced guitar parts juxtaposed against soulful organ riffs or synthesizer riffs and just a trace of reggae and/or Latin rhythm. Beverly enjoyed several hits on Capitol, but became unsatisfied with the label's inability to break the group beyond the R&B/funk market. They departed Capitol in the late '80s, and resurfaced on Warner Bros., where they continued making strong, distinctive releases. Anthology gathers the best (at least most of the best) singles the band did for Capitol, among them classics like "Southern Girl," "Before I Let Go," the complete "Joy and Pain," and "Happy Feelin's." British journalist David Nathan's notes are comprehensive, and nicely combine anecdotal and discographical references. ~ Ron Wynn
