COME DANCE WITH ME is Sinatra at his most ebullient; no down-hearted saloon songs or introspective ruminations here, just solid, swinging numbers that bring new meaning to the title song's exclamation; "what an evening for some Terpsichore." With punchy brass accents courtesy of Billy May (arguably Sinatra's jazziest arranger), the tunes leap out with unprecedented vivacity. Sinatra sounds relaxed but lively, and you can almost picture him sashaying across the dance floor with his objet d'amour in his arms as he delivers the romantic invitation of "Something's Gotta Give," "Cheek To Cheek" and of course "Come Dance With Me."

| | Raymond Jones Naked Soul CD (1999)
Come Dance With Me! songs
$11.49 Principally recorded at Alchemy Recording, Woodland Hills, California between April and December, 1988. Includes liner notes by Raymond Jones.
Raymond Jones is a perfect example of an artist who finally pursued a solo career after many years in the background. Over the years, he had played keyboards for R&B artists ranging from Chic to Stephanie Mills, and he wrote Jeffrey Osborne's major 1983 hit "Stay with Me Tonight." However, Jones wasn't known for doing a lot of singing as a solo artist, and the reason isn't hard to figure out -- he doesn't have a great voice by any means. Jones is a talented composer and has respectable chops as a keyboardist, but his voice is small and thin. However, Jones' limitations as a singer don't prevent him from making Naked Soul a decent quiet storm effort. This self-produced CD contains a few appealing crossover/pop-jazz instrumentals, although for the most part, it's an album of sophisticated, adult-oriented R&B vocals with jazz overtones. No one's going to mistake Jones' thin-voiced singing on "The Lights," "Easy Way" and "Naked Soul" for a Luther Vandross performance, but his writing is nothing to complain about. Fortunately, Jones often gives the lead vocals to such capable guests as Lynne Fiddmont Lindsay, Zachary Pugh and Portia Griffin. All things considered, this isn't a remarkable outing, but it's satisfying. ~ Alex Henderson
Released in 1999, Naked Soul was the second solo outing for composer pianist Raymond Jones. He began to conceptualize the project after ending his assignment as music director for the Keenen Ivory Wayans talk show. The first recording had taken place in 1997 after his father had passed. It was the acoustic piano piece Peaceful Journey and was dedicated to his father. Jones explains, âI was taking a redeye to New York when my dad was in the hospital before he passed and in the early morning light, it was so serene and peaceful watching the clouds with the rising sun coming into view. I hope Dadâs transition was like that.â Other highlights of the project include the Danilo Caymmi piece Codajas which is sung by Arnold McCuller. Jones mentions, âMy neighbors at the time included composer Dori Caymmi (Danilo's brother) and his wonderful wife Helena. They came around when Arnold did the vocals to make sure his pronunciation was correct with the Portuguese lyrics. I spoke to Dori a couple of months later and there had been some sort of bust at the home next door to mine. When Dori (who was out taking his daily walk) saw the police near my home he thought, âthe song wasn't that bad.ââThe song Funny.. Isnât It was originally written for Whitney Houston for the film The Preacherâs Wife. Before performing this song live, Jones relates the story ...
| | Vitamin C CD (1999)
Come Dance With Me! album
$9.09 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Vitamin C is Colleen Fitzpatrick, formerly of New York City's Eve's Plum. Her self-titled debut album finds the singer leaving the alt-rock stylings of her former band far behind in favor of a more urban, forward-looking sound.
The opening track, "Smile," employs the kind of Caucasian dance-hall rap style that made Barenaked Ladies famous, while "Unhappy Anniversary" is straightforward folk-pop, complete with jangling acoustic guitar and wistful vocals. "Me, Myself and I" cleverly interpolates the chorus from Santana's "No One to Depend On" in an arrangement that wouldn't sound out of place on a Smash Mouth album. Fitzpatrick makes good use of sunny pop ...
| | Coleman Hawkins Bean & Little Jazz CD (1996) (Import) Germany
Come Dance With Me! CD music
$10.05 Two different ensembles in which trumpeter Roy Eldridge and tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins join forces are presented on this 1994 collection, in both cases playing exemplary modern jazz . The pair loved working together and represent one of the best combinations of star soloists from this genre ever executed. All references between the last word in the previous sentence and the slang expression "killing" (for playing really well) are intended. The Jazz Hour imprint's program starts off on-stage at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival with some truly epic improvisation in terms of both length and inspiration achieved. The first three tracks go on collectively for well over a half-an-hour -- a stark contradiction of Charles Mingus' Grammy award winning liner notes in which he claims the elder generation of jazz players would never play long solos. Hawkins simply had no elders in terms of jazz tenor saxophone soloists, yet he spends an amount of time equivalent to three Top 40 hits on his "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" solo, all the while making it seem like what he is doing is spreading apple butter on freshly baked bread.
Even the warm, inviting opening of this gig involves multi-chorus statements, the combo members individually entering the scene as if popular characters in a radio comedy. Typically for a Bean & Little Jazz project, the band is superb. Pianist Ray Bryant and his brother, bassist Tommy Bryant are on hand, meaning this particular group passes the acid test for a bluegrass "brother band," (i.e. the good kind). Eldridge might as well be playing bluegrass, as quickly as he sets interpretive matter regarding chords and scales in motion. The Bryant brothers have meanwhile set aside the apple butter in favor of big portions of barbecue sauce and they don't care if it gets on the front of their shirts. Drummer Oliver Jackson fills out the group, although from previous imagery it may seem like the other way around. This event took place not that long before Jackson played on some of Yusef Lateef's earliest experiments with ethnic ...
