On "My Dark Hour" Paul McCartney plays under the alias Paul Ramon.
With Steve Miller's GREATEST HITS 1974-1978 compilation one of his best selling albums, in 1990 Capitol Records decided to issue a companion collection (albeit 12 years after the original's release), THE BEST OF 1968-1973.
Although one song ("The Joker") appears on both albums, the track listing is otherwise completely different and focuses on Miller's early blues/psychedelic phase. The best known tracks remain the aforementioned "Joker," as well as the uptempo "Living in the U.S.A." and "Gangster of Love," but such lesser known selections as "Your Saving Grace," "Going to the Country," and "Kow Kow Calqulator" are just as enjoyable.

The real deal While Stevie "Guitar" Miller has one wildly succesful song book - of chart hits that are both infectious and have held up over time - especially since the majority of them have dropped out of heavy rotation (no way faster to kill a good song or turn fans against one of their own) Stevie's earlier work is extremely credible in it's own right. If you tend toward a more bluesy less "pop" sound, and a small part of you still realizes that music can be art also - well then scoop this one up. Think Rolling Stones of the early 70's with a hint of Jefferson Airplane. The San Francisco sound of the 60's melded sweetly with straight ahead blues rock.
For ten bucks just buy the damn thing and see for yourself. Submitted by Your Saving Grace (Quicksilver, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Agrees with Quicksilver! I've had this for a long time and I'm not sure I've really ever listened to it! Like the other reviewer, this one has some hidden gems and while it doesn't have all the popular pop melodies that the 74-78 Greatest Hits has, it has a broad eclectic bluesy flavor to it! Where it really get's good is from track 9 on! Now why "The Joker" is on both Greatest Hits I don't have a clue? When you listen to "Songs for our Ancestors", you'd swear you were listening to Pink Floyd! Tracks 10 and 12, is it just me or is that Dave Mason on lead vocals? Great Tracks! In between, Quicksilver Girl; another good track! Well anyway, like the other reviewer, many tracks on this one I'm unfamiliar with that are really good! I'd almost rather have this one than the more popular 74-78 Greatest Hits which, like the other reviewer claims, has all the familiar popular cuts but none of these rare gems! Best Of Steve Miller Band 1968-1973 songs
$13.49 If the modernist novelist Virginia Woolf seems like a bizarre title subject for a rock album, it nevertheless fits the relentless peculiarity of the music on the first album from Sigmund Snopek III. Actually, this is the second album by Snopek's band the Bloomsbury People following a self-titled effort in 1970. The band plays on the entire album, but it was credited, for whatever reason, to Snopek alone. Snopek's muse and music certainly act as the impetus and grand ...
