| | Tina Turner Simply The Best CD Tina Turner Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
There's good news and (just a little) bad news about this Tina Turner greatest hits package. The good news is that what's here is across the board terrific stuff, from her stunning update of Ann Peebles simmering r&b classic "I Can't Stand the Rain," to the more rock oriented songs like "Better Be Good to Me" (the most convincing imperative in all of recorded music) and ""What's Love Got to Do With It". Best of all, the version of "River Deep-Mountain High" here is the original '60s track, re-mastered and re-equalized by genius producer Phil Spector himself. The bad news? The set came out in 1991, and thus misses out on "I Don't Wanna Fight" (from the Turner bio-pic WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?) and her sensational mid-'90s remake of John Waite's "Missing You."
This includes a bonus DVD disc.

| | England Dan Dr. Heckle & Mr. Jive CD (1978) Reissued
Simply The Best album
$9.55 The sincerity of their days on A&M Records has turned to total formula by the time Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive came around -- and Robert Louis Stevenson expert, author Ray McNally, makes it clear in his book on Mr. Hyde that the true pronunciation is Dr. Jeekill (as in, "I Kill and Hide"). It is quite a ...

| | Riviera Broken Hearted Dreams CD (2003)
Simply The Best music CDs
$10.15 Riviera's Broken Hearted Dreams is a hideaway of bungalow anthems and bedroom door confessionals inspired by the wisdom in a hollowed-out bible. Over six songs, the Chicago quartet maps the routes between American Music Club, the Rolling Stones, and the more intellectual wing of insurgent country's brokedown palace, discovering in the end that everything leads to the same blind alley. "Friends in California" dangles the dream of the golden state as a refuge from pain, and features a sunlit country-rock chorus as proof. But its characters are embittered. "You don't remember how we got here," Derek Phillips sings. "But ...

Simply The Best album
$13.29 Taking its inspiration from Scandinavian landscapes, Stefan Orins’s pieces mix harmony, density and energy. Behind the pianist’s tunes, which indicate paths to follow rather than compositions in the classical sense, hides a very northern sensibility which suggests the spark of life contained in every little thing. His Swedish roots provide the inspiration that give this music its sense of space and its aerial quality, reminding the listener of Keith Jarrett in the 70s, of Bobo Stenson, ...
| | Tonemah The Ghosts Of St. Augustine CD (2009)
Simply The Best CD music
$16.45 Darryl Tonemah had no idea that when he began writing songs, while attending college, that several years, shows, CD*s, nominations, radio and TV appearances, and a Native American Music Award, that he would be releasing his 5th CD *Inkblot*s & Random Thoughts* to what has be come an international fan base. All the time still retaining the same small town Midwestern point of view and great storytelling that has become his trademark. Growing up on and off reservations throughout the heartland, as well as his work today, have given Dr. Tonemah (he did manage to finish college) a unique perspective that is evident in his song writing. *I have had the blessing of seeing and experiencing a lot of things since the last CD, some great, some heartbreaking, some funny. I had started writing song ideas, and lines, and chord progressions, and drum patterns on pieces of paper I had in my pocket, and they somehow all managed to end up in the back seat of my car. When I couldn't fit anything else back there, I figured it was time to record. Which was great, because now I have a new CD AND a clean car.* As with Tonemah*s previous releases *Ink Blots and Random Thoughts* Darryl maintains his honest singing style with honest lyrics that cut to the heart of the matter. *It is a challenge trying to put everything I want to say or express into a 3 minute song. I wanted to write this CD more efficiently than in the past. I thought it was important that each line was significant. Kind of like a movie short. In a movie short everything on screen has some symbolic value. I used a lot of metaphor while writing this CD to get the most mileage from each line.* Once again Tonemah has gone to Nashville, TN to record his latest work. Incorporating some of Nashville*s finest session players Tonemah has created a heartfelt piece of music. Touching on feelings and experiences inherent in everyone. Tonemah is at times the Trickster, at times the son, at times the father, at times the seeker, but always the storyteller. A storyteller who offers meaning where the listener needs to find it. *In all the years I*ve performed with Darryl, one thing has always been evident, ...
