Duran Duran: Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Warren Cuccurullo. Additional personnel: Steve Ferrone (drums, percussion); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Bosco (percussion); Lamya, Tessa Niles, Karen Hendrix, Jack Merigg (background vocals); Milton Nascimento. Duran Duran came back out of nowhere in early 1993 with a new album and a huge hit, "Ordinary World." The group sounds more relaxed and mature than it did during their glory days, but not all that much has changed; instead of personifying the days of early-'80s synthesized dance-pop, the music is smooth dance-pop for the '90s. Taken on its own terms, Duran Duran works every bit as well as Duran Duran, Rio or Seven and the Ragged Tiger. "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone" are wonderful pop singles that sit between some passable album tracks and the occasional embarrassment, namely the wretched cover of the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale." In other words, Duran Duran are back and as good as they ever were. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Commonly known as "The Wedding Album" to differentiate it from their self-titled 1981 debut, 1993's DURAN DURAN was an unexpected commercial comeback for Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, spawning two hit singles, "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone," that were better than anything the band had done in nearly a decade. The rest of the album succeeds in subtly updating the classic Duran Duran sound without straying too far from their '80s chart-pop roots. The politicized "Too Much Information" and "Sin of the City" (concerning a disaster at a unlicensed New York dance club), are surprisingly aggressive tunes, but elsewhere, "None of the Above" and "Love Voodoo" are more traditional Duran fare. The album's two biggest surprises are the duet with Tropicalia superstar Milton Nasciemento on "Breath After Breath," and the surprisingly reverent take on the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale." Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) Songs Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Still in the cd player 10 years later. I have been a huge fan since Rio. I purchased "the Wedding Album" when it came out and it still is a regular in my car, its always there. I especially love to crank it for "Come Undone, Ordinary World, Love Voodoo" and "None of the Above". This cd will never get old. I can only hope that now that the boys are back, that "Astronaut" will put them back at the top. Submitted by MJ (Phoenix, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Absolutely amazing Duran For a band that has been together for ten years at the time this album was released, they have managed to surpass the old duran in a few ways. This is not to say however that this album is better than Old School Duran dating back to "Notorious" and everything before it. "The wedding album" is a beautiful and amazing testimony to Duran Duran's endearing talent and ability to write fresh, creative material with that amazing edge to it which is of course the trademark of Duran Duran's music. The album begins with "Too Much Information", a great song that starts off the album with some great energy. "Ordinary World" is an excellent form, and you'll only get the WHOLE song from this album, as on other albums it was edited down. It originally contained an extended guitar solo at the beginning and a wonderful guitar solo towards the end. "Love Voodoo" is a magnificently written song with this ear-pleasing music. "Drowning Man" is a song that really delves into the rocking side of duran duran, of course in Duran Duran style so it sounds nothing like you've ever heard. My other favorite song from the album is the lovely "Breath after breath", contains some great piano work and some lyrics in espanol, beautifully sung and fit in perfectly with the song. I love this album! Submitted by a reviewer (Michael Corleone says "Hello"!) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
